UChicago. How creative?

I know UChicago had been getting this reputation for accepting students largely depending on thier app essays.

How creative was the essay question? I know one of the essay topic for the previous year had been "So, how did you get caught?"

Here, the real question goes: How creative or weird was it?

Anyone from UChicago??

The question (or I guess statement) I replied to was “Find x.” I wrote a story instead of a traditional essay (backwards, with a little boy finding a potato in a treasure chest), and I don’t get it, but somehow they let me in.

Hope that helps.

I did “How did you get caught?” My essay was about defending wife-beating.

Realistically, it’s about how well you can write and reason, not how funky or granola you can get your essay to be. UChicago just wants to remind you that the best essay you can write is not necessarily a ‘safe’ or ‘conventional’ one.

Thanks guys. I am really hoping to apply to U of C next year…

uchicago has some of the most interesting essay topics i’m discovering…

My essay was straight forward, but it was about something I was passionate about. I thought it was really good. Apparently they did too.

They love your essasys, and it can be a distunguishing factor, but don’t be fool yourself that people get in largely on the essay. UChi students have impressive resumes all around.

I am def applying to UChicago next yr, although my chance is low. I think it worths trying. thanx guys.
