Any of you business owners? I’m worried about affording U of C.
I’ve heard they add back many business write-offs and expect you to tap into your business assets. We are 50% owners.

I’ve heard EFC ballpark: 25% for $40-60k, 35% up to $120k, zero aid thereafter.

With Tuition increasing by 4.1% annually, wondering if any UChicago parents can share if their FA has decreased from year to year? If so, by how much?

I know it is still early, but I have a couple of questions about orientation week (D is an excited EA admit). The website says it is scheduled for Sunday and Monday (9/22-23). Are there reasons for parents to stay for the second day or is it drop off students on Sunday and then say goodbye because Monday is for students? How hectic is move in day and what are your best tips for making it smooth?

erlanger, Congratulations and welcome !! Moving day is very hectic, try to stay the second day. They have multiples activities and once in a lifetime ceremony. After a service in the Rockefeller Chapel , parents and students participate in a bagpipe procession toward the college entrance were we said goodbye. Very emotional …afterwards a parents reception.

Erlanger - I didn’t find move-in day hectic at all. I was prepared for it to be hectic, but I was amazed at how well-organized it was. We parked near the dorm; orientation aides immediately appeared and emptied out the car into these big bins on wheels; and then the aides carried the bins up 4 flights of stairs to my son’s room. It all took about 15 minutes. Of course, helping my son to set up the room took a bit longer. Definitely, stay for both Sunday and Monday; there are many activities for parents, as Realeducation noted.

We live overseas, and bought everything online and it was send directly to my kid’s dorm address. Many stores will do that. That was great a help for us, and try to get there early. Lots of upperclassman students with big bins to help. Just a line to get the rooms’s key ,
and such. Get to the dorm early will be my best advise, and them organizing your kid room definitely takes a lot of time. Mine is in a single room, so was a little bit easier to coordinate.

I was a little surprised at first being asked for a donation while we are still paying tuition. Then I realized that the $50 donation they were asking for was to help fund house activities. We have been so impressed with the number and range of different activities and outings that our daughter’s house has arranged that we were more than happy to contribute.

According to the Washington Post, five colleges misreported data to U.S. News & World Report, those colleges include Tulane, Bucknell, George Washington, Claremont McKenna and Emory.

Oh she was beautiful, how sad and my heart goes out to her family. My child is a first year and told us that there was no foul play, and you all can draw a conclusion from there.

‘How hectic is move in day and what are your best tips for making it smooth?’ The move in was not that bad and the second day is what memories are made of- the bagpipe procession was priceless for parents
