Hey Grace, if I mail a transcript that I received for college credit and any other necessary mail as part of my application to your general office: University of Chicago Office of College Admissions, 1101 East 58th Street Chicago, Illinois 60637, will they know that it’s a part of my application and put it with my application file?

I’m submitting an extended essay that needs to be mailed rather than submitted online; what would be the best way to do that? I was planning on completing my application on commonapp.org, and uploading a note regarding the situation instead of the essay, then mailing my extended essay to Admission Office (with a self-addressed postcard for receipt of delivery). Would that be alright?

Hi,

RE: 3 LOR required.

My IB counselor is also my academic teacher who will help me with a LOR basing her recommendation as a counselor and at the same time as my academic teacher. Will I need 2 more LOR from different teachers? Thank you.

What sort of financial aid do international students receive?

Hi Grace! I have another quick question -
As I am applying EA, if my counselor does not send in my materials by November 1st even if my common app is submitted by then, is my application still considered late? Hopefully, this will not be the case for me, however I just wanted to make sure!

Also, I can apply rolling admission to another school and still apply EA correct?

Hello Grace,
I’d like to know if there is an alternatvie score or document of proof to the TOEFL test that is required for English proficiency. I have studied English as a First Language for 4 years in IGCSE for the first two and then as a Higher Level subject in the International Baccalaureate for the next two years. (I received an A* grade for the IGCSE English exam). I’ve also given the SAT test and received a 710 in Writing and 620 in Critical Reading. Are any of these viable alternatives to the TOEFL Test? (I ask because I plan to apply for Early Action and the next available test date is only in January)

Is a foreign language teacher’s recommendation not considered one of the two required recommendations?

Hello lake42ks, very accessible! This is designed as a space for all students involved in the arts, whether academically or extracurricularly, and we do not just limit participation in arts activities to students who are majoring in an arts field; you can learn more about arts programs for majors, minors, and those simply interested here: arts.uchicago.edu

Hello coolguy86, yes, we will scan it and put it in to your electronic file; just make sure that anything you send clearly states your name on all pages. If you have a common name, it may also be wise to include your birthdate.

Hello yellowdaisies, I am interested to know what kind of format cannot be uploaded to the Common Application… but, should your essay not be able to be uploaded, you do not need to insert a note unless the application will not let you submit without something physically in there; just send us a paper copy of your essay, and make sure it includes your full, legal name on each page. You can go ahead and send a postcard for confirmation receipt if you would like.

Hello veryslick, yes, this could suffice as your counselor recommendation, and you should then still submit two teacher recommendations.

Hello premed2297, see here for more information about international financial aid: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/international.shtml

Hello staryulover, we do know that sometimes counselors or teachers need a few extra days to submit their documents; so, so long as all of the documents that come from you (Common App, UChicago supplements, any other personal supplements you wish to include) are submitted by the 1st, you should be fine. Do encourage them to send them in as close to the 1st as possible, though!

Hello ankitd, the only exceptions are for applicants who for two or more years have attended a high school where the primary language of instruction is English in a country where English is one of the official languages (England, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, or Pakistan, for example). See here for a full explanation: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/apply/applicants/international/

Hello cellist, yes, a foreign language teacher would be fine, especially if this teacher has taught you at an advanced level in that language.

Hi Grace
I am a Canadian whose native language is Chinese. However, I’ve gone to school in the US for the last 9 years. I am more than fluent in English. Since the US has no official language, do I still have to take the TOEFL?

AimingForIvy: yes, if you have attended high school in the US, you do not need to take the TOEFL.

I’m really nervous… What do I do? :P

Go to the UChicago admissions Tumblr and go through the archives to find all of the cute pictures of kittens we post when we feel like it! :)
