UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

Hello berrycherry (sorry this is out of order, I accidentally skipped yours while going through the others),we no longer use the Chicago-specific aid form; submitting the ISFAA forms will suffice.

Hi Grace sorry to bother you again

Can I use the upload section in my UChicago account to upload a document explaining special circumstances?

Thanks a lot!

Does UChicago do any kind of open houses in NYC?

Asides from high school courses I’ve also taken two college courses. I’ve listed those classes in the extra information section of the common application, but would it be necessary to send over an official transcript from the college I took the classes at as well? And if so, what e-mail should I request the transcript to be sent to? Thanks.

Hello Darth, yes, you can if you would like to.

Hello CSIHSIS, yes, we do, although we have finished with our travel this fall and will not be doing many large information sessions until the springtime. You can found out more about where we will be and when we will be there here: [UChicago Visits You | The University of Chicago College Admissions](http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/visiting/chicagovisitsyou.shtml)

Hello xcyoungxc, yes, we would like to have your college transcripts. Please have them e-mailed to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu, provided this can happen in a secured fashion. You may also fax them or mail them via paper mail.

This may be a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure…I’m applying RD and thus won’t be sending in my app for another month. Is it okay if my admission counselor goes ahead and sends in my transcript?
Thanks :)

YellowDaisies, yes, this is OK.

does UChicago know if an applicant is applying ED anywhere?

nondairycreamer, no, we do not know this, although we do request that if you are accepted to an ED school you withdraw your application to UChicago promptly, even if you hear back from your ED school before you receive your admissions decision.

Should I send my November SAT 2 score if I applied EA?

Dear Grace, I have already applied to Chicago early action. I have one question. How does the ec verification process work? I put down that I was co-captain for the varsity academic decathlon for 3 years. However, the position is a very informal one, as everyone basically does the same work, and I am only in charge of about 5 people in a club of about 20 people, and I don’t think my counselor or advisor appreciates this (they are not very involved, at all), so they basically said I was an ‘active member’ of academic decathlon in their recommendations (I’m guessing). Will you guys think since no one mentioned it that I was lying? And if you check, I think my decathlon advisor would say I’m lying about being a co-captain, and my counselor would also hate me too!!! I’m really worried that I will be rescinded for this. Please help me.

I also would like to know under what circumstances would the admissions officer actually contact the guidance counselor in person to verify extracurricular activities. I really don’t want you guys to think I was lying because I’d have to explain the situation to everyone in school, like the counselor or principal, and they’d think I was trying to cheat when I was not. There are 4 captains in the team, but since my role is minimal, no one recognizes this, not even my advisor. She only thinks I’m an ‘active member.’ -_- I’m so frustrated about this and I always think I will get rescinded for this…

I would like to send in a recommendation from my boss, but the common app only allows its rec form to be used by school officials. My counselor said to have it mailed in to the admissions office, but I’m not sure how to have it matched to my application once there. Should I insert a card or something with my info? How should I go about this?

Thanks!! 10char

djz750, honestly, there is really no need to send an SAT-II score so late in the game; quite honestly we will likely already have evaluated your application before we receive it, and SAT-II scores have very little weight in your admissions decision.

jfas007, calm down! We certainly do not have time to call and verify everything we see on an individual’s application. We trust our applicants to represent their activities honestly and thoroughly. If you call yourself a co-captain and the group considers you such, then you’re a co-captain.

Hello kaybaday, so long as the rec letter includes your full name, school, and date of birth if possible, we will easily be able to match it to the rest of your file as we process materials. You may also elect to print out a Common App teacher rec form (yes, even if the person is not a teacher), disregard the portions that are not applicable to your boss, and have the person mail the letter in along with the form.

Hello :)

I just reread my “Why Chicago” essay for my EA application, and I’m afraid that it may be too generic and not show interest. Chicago is my number one school, but I have no idea what happened when I wrote the essay. I realized that I started describing the community that I felt while I was there… but really in context you could change the university and have a very generic essay (although anyone who has actually visited the school would feel that it is very Chicago-community oriented). Am I just silly worrying… or… I don’t even know what my question is… I’m in the stressed until mid-December and if I don’t get accepted I just waste my whole life holy crap what should I do up in the middle of the night sort of moods. OKAY IGNORE THIS.

By the way, I adore your blog! :D

skittlescutie: don’t freak out  Glad you like the blog!

To find out if we are accepted/rejected/deferred, will we get an email, actual letter in the mail, or do we have to check our UChicago account ourselves? Thank you!
