Does it reflect badly if one does not request an interview?

Does UChicago send out responses to applications before mid-December? Similar to a rolling reply?

Hi UChicago,

Based on the 25th - 75th percentile standardized test range colleges put up, where should my score lie for me to think I have a “decent/average” chance of getting acceptance (mine is slightly above 25th percentile, but I don’t know if it is in “decent/average” zone)?

My second question is if an applicant’s objective stats (i.e. test scores and GPA) is on the lower end of the spectrum but his/her application essay/recommendations are different or very good, would you still accept the applicant over someone with fantastic objective stats and average essays/recommendations?

Thank you

Should I be worried that I have no received notice for an off-campus interview yet? I sent in the request about a month ago. My friend, who lives right by me, who is also applying already scheduled hers for this Sunday even though she requested it two weeks after I did.

Hi UChicago,

After Upload Materials to UChicago Account, can we view what we uploaded?

Thanks!

Hello nondairycreamer, we will send an e-mail letting you know that you can check your decision in your Chicago Account when decisions are ready. Accepted students will receive further paper mailings.

Canbambiswim, no; interviews are truly optional, and you will not be at a disadvantage if you don’t request one.

Alexcbalboa, no, we release decisions at the same time; we do not have a rolling admissions process.

Free2rhyme, I’m sorry, I cannot provide estimates of a student’s likelihood of acceptance in either situation.

Hello College2012mp, check your Chicago Account to see if you can; this is a new software for me so I’m not sure that it is possible.

Skittlescutie, no need to worry; not having been contacted by an alum for an interview is not a bad sign. We are not able to accommodate every student who requests an interview, although our Alumni Schools Committee, which schedules interviews, does its best to match as many students as it can with interviews.

Hi Grace,

I was reviewing my application right now (which I already sent in) and I realized that I made some mistakes in the EC section. For two EC’s, I accidentally reported wrong hours, for example, for one, I put that , I do 6 hours, instead of 3 hours a week, and for the other, I accidentally put that I do 5 hours a week instead of 2 hours a week. The only thing I can attribute this mistake to is a hand slip on the number pad, and I’m really anxious about it. I don’t want the admissions counselors to think I’m dishonest or lying.

So please tell me how I should address a problem like this. Should I email my regional counselor (although you guys would be really busy right now, and i don’t want to disturb you) or could I upload a document to my UChicago account notifying you of these mistakes?

I already notified my guidance counselor, and she said that it’s fine and they don’t need to be reported because they’re so minor, but I just want to get your opinion?

UChicago -

Do you have any EA Application statistics that you can share. How many apps recieved, etc.

Some schools have started to release this information.

Hi Grace!
As an international student NOT applying for financial aid, would I still need to submit College Board’s “Certification of Finances” Form + Bank Statements?

Hi!
I applied EA, and on my “Application Checklist” it says “awaiting” next to “Secondary Report” and “Official Transcript.” These are the only two items I sent by mail (everything else was online), and they are the only two items that Admissions has not received. I sent them to Undergraduate Office of Admissions, 1101 East 58th Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60637. I have a receipt. What should I do?
Thanks!

Hello ataturk, this is very minor; your counselor is correct, you do not need to e-mail or call us to correct this. You’ll be fine.

Kleibo, no, not yet; I will post them here when we release them to the public.

Garriff, please e-mail internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu with this question.

JAlfredPrufrock, we are still processing many documents, so please wait to hear from us in an e-mail as to whether or not we are officially missing those documents; I know your Chicago Account reflects that we do not have them, but we still have many stacks of mail to get through. We will e-mail students with actually incomplete files next week.

Grace - can you share how many applied and were accepted during the EA round last year? Also, can you tell us how many applicants that were deferred last year were admitted during the Regular Decision process?

Hi Grace,

Just another question. How do we know which test scores were received? I have multiple that I sent and I’m scared that not all of them sent - since it’s very important for the multiple test dates to be sent for superscoring?

Is there a way to find out?

Grace, under my UChicago account, it says that my official test scores have been received. I sent ACT scores as well as SAT II scores. How do I know that Chicago received both?

I know UChicago superscores. My situation is that if I two ACT scores. If I send in both, the superscore will only be 1 point higher than if I just send my best score by itself. And actually, the superscore will be xx.5. So will it even be rounded up or are superscored tests not rounded up?

If it is rounded up, should I bother sending both tests to gain the extra point, or is it not that beneficial?

Hello dukedad, no, I do not have those numbers separate from our general applicant/admit/attend numbers for last year.

Ataturk and nondairycreamer, rest assured that if your account lists “official scores received” we have received all of your requested scores; it will likely only appear once in your account, but we do have a very solid setup between the College Board and the ACT service, and all of the scores you have requested will have been delivered to us.

Collegekang, we use the official ACT scoring metric, which doesn’t necessarily do a simple average of subsection scores; in any case, a super score only involves whole values of points, so if you’d like to send in your slightly higher score, you should feel free to do so.

So… UChicago doesn’t round up ACT superscore?

Dukedad - I don’t know how many were differed and admitted later but here are EA numbers for last year.

admit apply
1,600 6,960

So if my composite superscore is at xx.5, which is generated from taking the best subsection scores from both of my ACT tests, it would not be rounded up to the next highest whole number for UChicago? Sorry, just need a bit more clarification

So it says you need recommendations from academic teachers, and then the supplemental area says “you may also submit an additional recommendation from anyone who knows you well (e.g., coach, music or foreign language teacher, member of your community).”

Do music and foreign language teachers not count as academic teachers?
