john3ny, no worries-- we usually wait to download much of our material from the Common App until after our deadline.

skittlescutie, rest assured it has been received. As our deadline has just passed we are receiving a large amount of e-mail, so it may not be possible for your counselor to compose a personal reply to you, but your e-mail has certainly been read and noted.

hi grace, as a first time user, I’d like to know if the admissions office has ever/will ever use posts on this site to match poster stats with their application, thereby impacting the admissions process. thank you very much!

norriscole, no we do not. This is meant to be an anonymous forum through which to ask questions about the application process and UChicago generally, and we do not match posts/users with our known or potential applicants for admissions purposes.

Hi Grace! I just opened my UChicago account and decided to upload a supplementary recommendation. However, as I was doing that I noticed in the upload box that we can submit teacher recommendations, essays, transcripts, etc. Does this mean I need to upload those things? I thought that was all done through the commonapp? On my UChicago account it says my application has been received…Sorry, I’m just a little confused! Thanks in advance!

worried, no need to do so-- we prefer that you submit these documents directly through your school and this does not reflect that we have not received these documents. Those options are used when we find that we are missing something from a student toward the last minute (and we will contact you to let you know if we find that something is missing from your account).

Oh wow, this is a great topic. It’s the only one on CC I’ve seen an actual admissions counselor make to answer questions.

But anyway, this is a question that probably has an obvious answer, but I uploaded two piano recordings onto my UChicago porfolio. When “Edit[ing]” the “Details” for them, it presents a checkbox entitled “Representative Work,” but what does this mean?

Also, I noticed the post above regarding uploading a supplemental recommendation online. Which does admissions prefer, submitting a supplemental recommendation online from an applicant or via mail from the applicant’s recommender?

Thank you!

I have the same question as thisismymingzi

also how important are artist statements? I don’t have three sentences to write about my pieces and I want to leave those blank.

What should UChicago have received? Under my recent activities, it only said Received: Application. Does this mean my UChicago supplement and teacher recs weren’t received? Thanks.

Hi Grace, thanks for answering our questions!

I understand that people at UChicago are more than their GPA, but in my case my GPA has been all over the place. It was good freshman year, tanked sophomore year, increased back to about freshman levels my junior year, and now for my senior mid-year report I’m looking at a 3.8 GPA. In relation to my terrible sophomore year (for which I have no excuse but stupidity), and even my junior year, how much is the mid-year report weighed?

Thanks again!

the notification date for regular decision is late march. does that mean decisions come out in late march, or that we will be notified by then and you might get your decision beforehand?

How exactly do we send in the midyear report? I’m confused!

I made an error in my essay. Since UChicago allows applicants to upload materials even after the deadline, I was wondering if I could upload the edited one. And also will doing so affect any of my admission prospects?

Thanks in advance!

thisismymingzi and rockpaperbang, you can feel free to elaborate as much or as little as you like on your work; check the box if you feel that that particular piece is most representative of your artistic style or ability. If everything is “most representative”, no need to check the box at all. We do prefer that supplemental recommendations be submitted to us by the recommender either by fax or mail.

languidness and others, we are currently processing a large volume of material, submitted both electronically and through the mail. Your UChicago account will accurately reflect the material we have received in approximately two weeks, and we will contact students who are missing documents and give ample time to resubmit. Please do not worry.

knottinghaem, we understand that students may experience a rough year in school at some points, and so do look at the entirety of a student’s transcript-- including the midyear report-- for a fuller picture of how the student has performed academically in school.

myjeselle, we do not have a set date when we expect to be able to release decisions. They will certainly be out before April 1st and usually come out toward the end of March.

Skittlescutie, you may download the midyear report form from the Common Application and either mail or fax it to our office.

Phr3k, yes, you may do so by uploading the essay in to the Portfolio section of your account. You may wish to note at the top that it reflects minor edits.

Hi,
Right now, I feel like the dumbest person in the world. I submitted my common app on time and then I saw somewhere in Uchicago’s ‘The Uncommon Blog’ that we can submit supplement materials till February first. However, now I realize that the ‘supplement materials’ did not refer to the common app supplement.
Will they still accept if I submit it now? Or may be tomorrow (I will need some time to produce some descent essays)… I know this sounds really naive but I am an international student very less informed about the application process and I don’t want to lose Uchicago this easy. So, please help! :(

internationallie, e-mail internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu detailing your situation. Exceptions can often be made, but they would be the ones to grant it.

is an international student who has already enrolled in another university(3 years) still send application in Uchicago as a freshman?

doctoribach, no, a student who has been enrolled in another university full-time for at least one term as a degree-seeking student (not including students who complete high school requirements at a university) needs to apply as a transfer student. See here for more information: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/apply/applicants/transfer/

Hello Grace,
I uploaded the foreign financial aid app into my uchicago account. For a few days it said " we have received a Financial Aid App from you", yet it’s not there anymore. Does that mean I have to upload it again ?

molectron, no-- if you uploaded it online we have the document and there is no need to upload it again unless you receive an e-mail from us if we need any corrections or clarifications.
