UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

pphaiptnk, we will accept the January 2 SAT test.

BlackBunny, yes, you may submit your 2010 forms so long as you follow up with the 2011 forms once they are available.

Does submission of great SAT subject tests (like 800,800,790) has a positive impact in my application? I do have such scores but I have not submitted as the website says SAT Subject test has little or no impact on admission.

Hey Grace, I faxed my parents’ 2010 income tax returns around a week ago. In my UChicago account, my CSS Profile appeared as received and my parents’ income tax returns as pending up until yesterday. All financial aid information disappeared today. Does this mean it’s all been received (with the obvious exception of 2011 income tax returns)? I also submitted my FAFSA a couple of weeks ago.

Good evening Grace,
Being a deferred applicant, my chances at UChicago do not look too great. How is UChicago on transfer students? At what point do you solely focus on the College transcripts and disregard the SAT scores?
Also, could you shed some light on UChicago’s medical school?
Thank you.

kdines, SAT-II scores are not required, and while we will consider them if they are submitted they are not usually a factor in our decision-making process. Great scores can be a way to show us mastery of a subject that you have self-studied or perhaps did not do so well in grade-wise in actual classes, but they are usually not an impactful portion of the admissions process.

drinkyoupretty, you should contact college-aid@uchicago.edu with this question.

mango15, all transfer applicants do need to submit an SAT or ACT score along with their application, which we do consider during the admissions process alongside new information like college transcripts. As I am focused on undergraduate admissions I am not particularly familiar with the medical school (although I do know that they offer a strong graduate program) but would encourage you to check out their website here: [Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago](http://pritzker.uchicago.edu/)

Hi Grace,
I was deferred but decided I want to submit the optional essay, which I didn’t write in December. Even though it is past the Jan. 19 deadline you mentioned above, can I still submit it? My letter of deferral says, “Materials must be received by February 25, 2012.” Do these “materials” include the optional essay? Which deadline applies? Thanks!

Hi Grace,

I am a deferred applicant who has previously requested for an interview (but did not get one). Will there be an option on the mychicago page for me to re-request an interview?

Thanks, you rock!

Hey Grace, on my UChicago account, all my uploaded materials and financial aid materials disappeared. I was deferred and was wondering should I reupload all my materials again? Thanks!

Hi Grace,
I just tried to apply for an interview and it is well before the interview deadline and it said that registration is no longer available. Why is that and is it possible any other way to schedule an interview? Thanks!

Hello, Grace!

If my teacher submitted a supplemental recommendation on my behalf via snail mail, will it show up on my UChicago account once it has been processed? Would you recommend that my teacher upload an electronic version as well?

Thank you for your time!

Hi, Grace,

On the [information page](http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/visiting/interviews.shtml) for alumni interviews, it says that “Applicants may express interest in an interview via the UChicago Account after they have submitted their application,” with an “‘Interested in an Off-Campus Alumni Interview’ [appearing] near the bottom of [the] UChicago Account screen under ‘Forms.’”

However, after numerous attempts, I haven’t been able to locate that function. Would I be able to request an alumni interview another way?

Thank you!

jazzflower, yes, deferred students may upload additional material until February 25th.

garriff, host, and thisismymingzi; while the deadline to complete an interview has not passed, the deadline to request an interview passed last week; we do ask for advance request so that we can make scheduling arrangements. Interviews are optional, and are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis depending on the availability of our alums.

curiouscat247, no need to send this in electronically; we are still processing a lot of paper mail, so it is likely that it has not yet been processed.

coolguy86, no, there is no need to reupload these materials if they were previously all reflected as received-- rest assured they were received.

Oh and I scheduled an on-campus interview for Friday, January 27. I haven’t received any information as to where I should meet my interviewer at and who he/she is. Is my interview still going to happen?

Thank you. Because it is so late in the game, should I email my admissions counselor and let her know I am uploading new documents? Or will she be automatically notified and look at them? I just want to be sure they are seen before my admissions decision is made.

Coolguy, I’m obviously not Grace, but just thought I’d tell you that My S interviewed on campus last summer and the instructions were just to show up at the Admissions Office shortly before your assigned interview time and you’ll be met by your interviewer. There was no prior contact directly with the interviewer. I’m assuming that’s why you’ve heard nothing; just show up at the appointed time.

Hopefully, Grace will come back before Fri to confirm this. Good luck!

coolguy86, yes, your instruction is just to meet at our office in Rosenwald Hall (showing up 10-15 minutes early if you can is usually a great idea). There should have been a confirmation screen with this information when you signed up for your interview online, but it can be easy to miss.

jazzflower, yes, a brief head’s up e-mail to your regional counselor would be a great idea.

Thank you!

Hi, Grace

I’m an American citizen currently studying in a Chinese International School with an IB program and all that jazz. Articles + Personal experiences have shown that many students that apply from China fake their transcripts/ hire someone to write their essays. As a straight-laced student will my transcript be viewed negatively in any way? Do you know of any measures that the admissions team at UChicago has taken in response to this?

Kinda hyperventilating.

Thanks!

Aimeleilia, please don’t worry-- I know that information about application agents and SAT cheating domestically has been in the news a lot lately, but it is certainly not our assumption that many of our applicants are doing this. We view all students’ transcripts and materials as their own work unless we are given reason from that particular student or school to suspect plagiarism or cheating-- whether or not that student is an international or domestic applicant. If questions of authenticity arise, we make every effort to have records validated by a student’s school. If you have more questions about the international admissions process generally, please contact internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu . Hope this helps!

When will we be informed of what documents we may be missing?
