UCHICAGO RD CLASS OF 2019

@imrakibul96 The school report that the counselors send to the schools should provide that to some extent and that’s is why standardised testing was introduced.

It’s interesting how they inundate students with literature, asking for them to apply, and once they do, it’s silence for months.

It’s hard to believe that the acceptance rate for UChicago 10 years ago was around 40%.

@leannatorres Where are you from?

I actually heard that before EA applications, UChicago sent some people t-shirts? Is this true?

@calliemoon11 I don’t think it’s a must…My counselor showed me her commonapp page and that part wasn’t required.

I was pretty surprised to find out that even at a 20% acceptance rate, UChicago was still as high as it is now on USNWR. I mean, that list is clearly not everything, but the prestige of UChicago stayed the same, while the numbers lowered. Interesting.

Well one thing that i find a little vague is. For example in my case, my English is not that good and so I cannot cope up with CR much. But that does not mean i will lag behind others in any manner at college! does it?!

@arabm2 That is what the school report is. It is one of the required documents that couselors needed to submitted.

@imrakibul96, not at all, if you put in the work, seek help when you need it, you’ll do absolutely fine!

@thebingbong Plano!
@imrakibul96 I don’t think it’ll be a great hindrance. The US does really have great facilities for international students, and people who are new to the US. My dad moved to US just to go to Northwestern and he wasn’t the best at the language but felt very welcome.

I got a T-Shirt, probably doesn’t mean anything

@leannatorres I agree with what you said. Their applicant number has also risen since then. I think that certain Uni’s (like Chicago) believes that admitting less people (i.e being more “selective” ) makes it a lot more prestigious and draws more applications its way. Which is what happened, if you notice.

@InfinityMan The fact that they moved to Common App and waived application fees for almost everyone means that more people apply and therefore, lowering the acceptance rate. Before that the application pool was self-filtering

@leannatorres Wow, Plano is so competitive. Do you go to a very Chinese populated school? Is that all Plano schools?

I still have my FA checklist…so I’m rejected.

@hugzUC why do you assume that??

Yeah, Uchicago in recent years has become famous (or infamous) for courting lots of applicants via frequent emails, mailings etc, some speculate that it’s to increase their perceived selectivity/prestige. But honestly without the mail I’ve received from them, I largely wouldn’t have been introduced to the school. One particular email contributed to my decision to apply, so I’m thankful!!

@thebingbong I actually didn’t know that. But the fact remains that the name “U Chicago” nowadays has a stronger impact than it did in, say, 2005.

@thebingbong I really wish colleges knew. I mean, pretty Asian-dominated population, but that’s not all of Plano.
