<p>Hi, I received an email from the U of C with the subject line "The Top Twelve Reasons to Finish Your Application" and in it, the 12th reason is as follows: "In the spirit of the holidays, we will even give you until January 3rd to submit your application. So now you have 3 extra days and no excuse not to finish it!"</p>

<p>...is that what I think it is? Although, when logged into Common App, its deadline still shows as January 1, and the first line of the email reads "January 1… hm, what’s the significance of that day? With the exception of the whole “ringing in the new year” thing, January 1 is UChicago’s Regular Decision application deadline—and it’s coming up quickly!"</p>

<p>So...what is the 12th reason all about? A hoax to fool those too hopeful to believe in an extension?</p>

<p>Wow. You’re seriously seriously over thinking this. The first option for the rational reader is to take it at face value. Consider this option.</p>

<p>I would just make sure the email is in fact from the University. Confirm with admissions and then enjoy the time extension!</p>

<p>Yeah, I got the same email and was wondering the same thing. I’m a bit worried as it does not say anything about the extension on the UChicago website (as far as I can see), and the Common App still lists the deadline for UChicago as 1/1. Does anybody else know more about this?</p>

<p>I also received this email, and I am puzzled… I sent an email to their office but haven’t gotten a reply yet.</p>

<p>I emailed Admissions yesterday, and today I got a response that confirmed the 1/3 deadline: </p>

<p>“The deadline is January 3rd, rest assured.”</p>

<p>So will the Common App then allow us to finish the application after 1/1, since it still lists the deadline as that?</p>

<p>Most likely it will just take CommonApp a day or two to update with the new date. I know when I applied EA and they had extended the deadline it took a day or two before the CommonApp showed the new due date.</p>

<p>This is stingy. The 12th day of Christmas is Sunday the 5th. So it should be Monday the 6th and not Friday the 3rd.</p>

<p>The schools know who has set up commonapp to consider them and started a supplement. If they see a large number pending, it is in their interest to consider an extension.</p>
