@mahoushojo still waiting on others haha and congrats to you too
@adalayde, haha thanks. really a happy and same time surreal moment when I read the admission update. I am also waiting for some other schools that release their decisions by the end of March. Good luck!
With all these people with 4.0 GPAs and 2300 SATs being rejected or waitlisted, perhaps people will start taking colleges seriously when they say that outstanding grades and test scores don’t guarantee admission. Indeed, many ADMITTED students had appreciably lower stats. Same at all the highly selective colleges. Alas, many of us still haven’t got the message.
Would you guys think that getting waitlisted is a good or bad sign for the other schools I applied to (Georgetown, Amherst, Duke, Princeton, and Dartmouth)?
Beckett-Just my opinon, but I would say more good than bad because it means that you are generally qualified. If you are generally qualified for UChicago then you are also for the other places. However, it does not mean you will be admitted, it just means you will be in the hunt more or less depending on the institution. Good luck to you.
Anybody received scholarships or scholar nominations? Does UChicago have these?
UChicago gives merit scholarships in increments of $5K: $5K, $10K, and $15K. These scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis, and they are renewable for all 4 years. So the $5K award is really $20K and so on. The UChicago promise commits to no loans and funded opportunities. I can vouch for both of these because our financial aid so far has not included loans, and this summer will be the second consecutive one where my son will have received a grant for summer research / education. UChicago also stacks scholarships. So if your aid has been determined and grants awarded, and you then receive some sort of scholarship, they do not pull back the other grants. We actually had this experience the 1st year. All in all I’ve been very impressed and pleased by the opportunities available for undergraduates.
Hey guys,
I applied to Chicago and got waitlisted. What do you guys think would help me get off the wait list. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you!
@mnesh28 Send the admissions office an email saying that you would still be interested to attend/would seriously consider attending if you got in off the waitlist
@Beckett did you receive your decisions from Duke and Amherst? I applied and was rejected from both. Disappointing, but expected so not too upset over it.
Hey guys, has anybody received UChicago’s merit scholarship? Any idea how many people get it?
Hi, I have received the University Scholarship, if that’s what you’re asking about.
I have heard a stat that about 16% of people at UChi get some form of merit scholarship from the university (not NMS…that would be a lot more people).
I’ve also heard (from a talk by Nondorf) that the acceptance rates are the following for CO2019:
Overall Acceptance rate: 7.7%
EA Acceptance rate: 11%
RD Acceptance rate: 4%
Deferred Student RD Acceptance rate: 1%
any recent waitlist admits?
has anyone seen a survey for waitlisted students that allows us to indicate whether we’re open to taking a gap year?
@crtexxx do you have a source/ link for those stats
Overall Acceptance rate: 7.7%
EA Acceptance rate: 11%
RD Acceptance rate: 4%
Deferred Student RD Acceptance rate: 1%
the stats are correct. I also heard them directly from the dean of admissions
The school newspaper is showing overall acceptance rate of 7.8%. See the following link. http://chicagomaroon.com/2015/04/14/record-low-acceptance-rate-as-applicant-numbers-increase/
Yeah those stats are definitely right. Nondorf gave them in a speech at the admitted student overnight.
Has anybody in waitlist got OK from University of Chicago admission?
