Just a quick questions - have you guys been continuously contacting the admissions office or the counselors to show your interests? I really haven’t - it’s kinda bumming me out right now
@ihihihi - don’t worry nor have I, except I get a lot of email updates about the varsity sport I may participate in if I get admitted (I was previously in contact with the coach - just 1 or 2 email exchanges). But other than that, nothing. Don’t worry!!
@fizzy110 woah sounds like Uchicago’s keeping a big eye on you! I think that’s a good sign that you’ll get in
@ihihihi Thats so kind of you! But we won’t know for sure till Friday!! I hope we all get good news
So I’m an international student not asking for any financial aid. Uchicago sent me a letter day before confirming that I don’t need any financial aid and asking me to update my information immediately if I do. They gave a deadline till the 10th etc. I’m really anxious and I’d like to have your opinion on if this means I’m in… I feel it does because wouldn’t it be cruel to ask someone to fill and submit documents (in case I did need aid) a week before decisions are released UNLESS you plan on taking them?
@tang97, I got the same email a few weeks ago. I don’t think it indicates an acceptance, they just need to process the financial aid stuff (if you applied/want to apply)at the same time as the other things, so they can release your aid grant when you get your acceptance.
@fizzy110 Yep, I understand that part it’s just the timing that intrigues me; Wouldn’t they have made all the decisions by now, with less than a week left for the decisions to be released and everything.
@tang97, I would suspect so - on your commonapp/uchicago form, did you indicate that you were planing to apply for aid (even though in reality you aren’t)? I don’t think anyone can really tell you whether or not this means an acceptance, I wouldn’t read into it too much so you don’t get your hopes up, but HOPEFULLY there is good news on Friday :).
@fizzy110 Thanks for your response! I understand all that, but what I’m trying to say is why would the admissions office spend time a week before decisions are released asking people who aren’t going to get in for financial info/confirmations. Wouldn’t all the decisions have been made already? Why would they ask someone who they aren’t going to admit for a confirmation?
@tang97 I agree with you, it does sound illogical - what exactly did the email say?
Thank you for applying to the University of Chicago. According to our records, you have NOT applied for need-based financial aid. Please note that as a non-US citizen or non-US permanent resident, if you do not apply for financial aid before your admissions decision is finalized, you will not be eligible for any subsequent financial aid if you are admitted or at any point during your four years in the College. We recommend that students do not rely on merit-based aid if they do not have the funds to afford their entire four years at UChicago.
If you and your family have the resources to pay the full cost of attending four years of college at the University of Chicago, and you will not need to apply for need-based aid, please disregard this message. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED.
If you DO wish to apply for need-based financial aid, you must notify us immediately via email at internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu so we can adjust your records accordingly. You will also need to complete the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) online through your UChicago Account by Tuesday, March 10th, following the instructions available at https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/international-aid.
Please note that the ISFAA is the only form used by UChicago for need-based financial aid applications if you are not a US citizen or US permanent resident. This includes out-of-status, Deferred Action plan or otherwise undocumented students. If you have submitted a different form in error – such as the CSS Profile – you will need to complete the ISFAA. Otherwise, your financial aid application will remain incomplete.
@fizzy110
@fizzy110 Also, I didn’t indicate that I was applying for aid on any form at all. I’m just really befuddled about the timing! Thank so much for your input again.
@tang97 Who knows why UChicago would send this so late in the game if they were not going to accept you… in your area, do you know of anyone else who received such an email?
Maybe there’s some sort of deadline or something?
The email seems clear to me. It is giving you (as an “international” applicant) a final warning that if you have any thoughts of applying for financial aid now or in future years, you must start that process now, before admissions decisions are put out.
The FA office is separate from the admissions office, so I would predict that this email was sent to all the international applicants who have not submitted any FA paperwork. The only way to test that hypothesis would be to find other international applicants who did not apply for FA and see how many also got the email, or did not get the email.
Best wishes to you @tang97 and hopes for good news later this week!
@VSGPeanut101 I got the email from an account that says Uchicago International Admissions and not office of financial aid. I don’t have anyone to check with … My point remains that why would they ask me to reconsider if I had the money UNLESS they were going to admit me! I mean… they gave explicit instructions to submit a form within a 3 day period and everything. Wouldn’t it be unkind to recommend someone to submit such a form at the last moment unless you’re planning to admit them?
I don’t mean to appear rude or demoralizing but there’s a huge chance that the email is an automatic one. Hopefully, you’ll get into UChicago, and you sure did deserve it, but I highly doubt UChicago would give out such a clue. Good luck and I hope you get good news. UChicago is an amazing school. Best wishes. @tang97
@spiderwoman Why would they want the financial aid forms of tons of international students ( all of whom haven’t applied for aid) a week before they release their decision? That seems rather illogical.
You don’t have to convince me, I’m just warning you not no raise your expectations based solely on a financial aid email. Good luck on the 13th @tang97
