So...I don't think a thread like this has been made yet so I'm making it...yea.

I was deferred EA so technically I'm an RDer. Anyways, how's it all going with you guys? What are you guys doing till D-Day comes (no, get those pictures of Normandy out of your head, I'm not talking about that D-Day!)? Anything interesting? Or, if you find all my questions to be too bland for your liking:

In the spirit of adventurous inquiry, pose a question of your own. If your question is original and thoughtful then you should have little trouble writing a great post. Draw on your best qualities as a writer, thinker, visionary, social critic, sage, citizen of the world, or future citizen of the University of Chicago; take a little risk and have fun (not too much fun though...and, don't forget to kill the fun after you have it - get used to being a UChicagoer ;)).

I just wanna see what my decision is. I honestly won’t be surprised if I get rejected but it would nice to get a big ol’ acceptance. Luckily, I’ve learned to love OSU, my state flagship, where’d I’ll get a decent amount of money. Good luck to everyone!

Hello fellow possible future UChicago friends!

I am getting really excited. I’ve already been accepted to a ‘safety’ college in the UK, because I know my chances of getting into the US are slim. But oh boy am I hoping this dream comes true!!

Where else are you guys applying? How does UChicago compare to the other schools in terms of your favourites?

I haven’t been able to visit but I Heart UChicago :)

At this point, I’m thinking that even if I weren’t admitted, I wouldn’t go. I’d originally planned to study economics, then physics…now I’m thinking engineering, and we know how that works out. Cost is also a bit much.

Is this just me rejecting them first, after getting deferred EA? Maybe, maybe.

I actually feel a bit guilty now, since I want to be accepted, but don’t want to go. For the ego boost :o

Can’t wait for decisions - UChicago is rotating between spot 1 and 2 on my “i want to go there list” - along with an LAC from the east - ever since my skype interview about a month ago. Plus, I just love the city - it’s super duper.

I’ve been preeeeetty busy since graduating school (hello from Australia!), I have 2 part-time jobs working about 30-35 hours a week (in a fruit shop and a book shop), I have planted a small veggie garden, I am taking a post-IB-stream Chinese class at the big name university in town (so I don’t forget it all), and watching far too much tv on dvd (house, dexter, big bang theory - i LOVE Big Bang Theory)… and baking (most recently - cappuccino cupcakes, and elderflower-and-brown-sugar-baked rhubarb).

I have also fallen in love with spin classes at my local gym and go almost every day.
And because legal drinking age here is 18 just been partying it up during the night time.

Excited for decisions - that week is going to be huge for me. Passover and decisions. 2 big family dinners- I hope I have some exciting news to share!

^ I still have not received an e-mail saying that my decision was available in EA. I just logged on when the site was crashing and viewed the letter. So if you don’t get the e-mail for RD, just log on anyway when the threads start popping up on CC =).

They’re on your UChicago account. No one knows when they’ll be released, that’s the fun! There’s probably about a 90% chance it’ll be on or before April 1.

Bt-dubs, I just wrote this long-ass edit to that above post, but when I tried to submit, it was outside the time limit by like 3 minutes. Anyways, here’s a summary of what it said:

When calculating applications/day for EA and RD, it comes out to this:
EA: ~135 applications/day
RD: ~180 applications/day (assuming 1,550 EA admits and 1,500 rejections)

However, RD will have many more less qualified kids and many more “superstars.” In addition, since there are so many kids, I think it’ll be hard to gain admission or even get a lot of debate in the committee unless the applicant almost immediately strikes a chord with the reader. Because of these two reasons, I think that 182 applications/day is not really representative of what the Adcoms will have to do for RD, it’ll probably more like 150-160. Thus, I think that they’ll get it done by April 1 (the end date I used for RD).

One more thing: since most other elite universities and LACs will undoubtedly have sent out acceptances/rejections by April 1, so Chicago will want to have done that too so they can actively compete with them in the “enrollment stage.”

Totally agree that our apps need to pop out at first glance to the liking of our reg rep, not just for Chicago but for most schools. I imagine if the counselor is not with you, you’re already done without debates, though there might be some 2nd read or a show of hands for due diligence. ED deferrals are “pretty much over” (Duke Dean of Admissions) but in the case of EA the chance is a bit better. Still, why would the files be re-evaluated after they had been read and re-read, evaluated or even debated (no offense) other than a few? Of course no adcom would admit that.

Most, if not all, of our fates would be pretty much sealed by now. Just the technical double-checking, datapoints analysis, signing of the letters, stuffing of envelopes, uploading etc. would take some days before release.

A week ago I called with a question regarding financial aid and the person asked for my name and SS#.

Then he said with an alarmingly apathetic voice that “We ask for tax forms in May, so you can go ahead and send your tax forms in, but it doesn’t matter.”

That leads me to think that my financial aid forms won’t be necessary because I’m already rejected.

Can’t say I’m surprised, but I am definitely dejected :(
