As a regular transfer student (as opposed to transferring into a specialty program for non-traditionals, etc) I didn't think I'd have to do any interviews. As it turns out, University of Chicago offers interviews for potential transfers.

Has anyone interviewed with an alum from UChicago? Should I expect a transfer interview to be too terribly different from freshman?

You can also ask this question in the University of Chicago forums. (I did not interview with an alum). I think transfer interviews and freshman interviews will be similar, but I think you should be expected to answer why you want to transfer and what you're unsatisfied with in your current situation.

The second part is easy. I am at a community college and I have no choice but transfer. It's the rest of the interview, etiquette and otherwise, that I'm unfamiliar with.

Where does an interview like this generally take place? Do I choose? Does the interviewer? If we go out is it polite for me to offer to pay?
How long of an interview is appropriate?

I haven't had first hand experience with am alumni interview, as my interview was on campus.

I would imagine the interviewer will select a place, and it will most likely be at a place like Statbucks or his or her workplace. I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a place or two in mind, just in case. My interview was 45 minutes, and I would imagine yours would be of similar length. As far as paying, I would offer, but not insist. If he or she offers to pay, I would graciously accept.

I don't think any of these factors make a difference so long as you're not rude.
