I am applying as a transfer (applied as a freshman, was waitlisted, chose to go to UCSC, now am trying to transfer), and I had a lot of questions. Not much representation anywhere for transfers! So...

1) Are there any other transfer hopefuls around? If so, did you apply under the early route (will hear sometime in the next couple of weeks) or the regular route (will hear in mid-May)?

2) I hear there are dorms that cater to transfer students, but I can't seem to find which those were (though I know I saw it off of the UChi website). Does anyone know what they are and, furthermore, /how/ they are? Is it better just to go to one of the 'popular' dorms the freshman talk about? (I think it's important to note that I would be a sophomore transfer if accepted.)

3) Anything you want to add that might be of special interest to transfers?

Anyone have anything?

Chicago has certain dorms for transfer students (though I think the list is the same as the dorms freshman are allowed to pick)

While searching the website, I found this: https://classof2008.uchicago.edu/insiders_guide/housing.cfm

Mega helpful!

(Maclean and Blackstone are the dorms I was thinking of when I mentioned that there were specific ones transfers tended to go to.)

I'm another transfer hopeful, applied to U of C under early alternative.

Thanks, redchord. :)

I forgot to mention that I applied under the regular assessment (though that was probably evident already). So I'll hear in mid-May about my rejection, right in time to gear up for finals. :P

Have you visited campus, redchord?

Is it significantly easier to transfer in if you got waitlisted when you applied before? I sure hope so =( .. was waitlisted but REALLY want to go (since i probably wont be able to even if i get off the waitlist due to financial issues)

Absolutely ditto, wondrlst. Wow.

I was waitlisted and really wanted to go, and I decided to forgoe the waitlist because of financial concerns.

... Of course, I don't know if it's any easier. I would imagine not, though -- UChi says on their website that the only real difference is that you have a year or two of college behind you. You're still expected to have the same things as the entering freshman in terms of grades and, at the very least, high school activities etc. though, of course, college activities matter more if you've the 2 years of college.

that sorta sucks for me because the only reason i got waitlisted and not rejected (i just KNOWWW) is because my essays were quirky beyond belief.

Yeah, I got the chance to visit campus (actually spent the night there). I liked it, although it was really different than where I'm at now.
