Hey guys! Thought I’d start this
Objective
College: Case Western, previously small unknown LAC
GPA: ~3.69 overall, 51 credits/4.00 major-specific, 14 credits
Major: Psych and Sociology
HS: Pretty good NJ public
GPA: 3.14 I believe (My chest!)
Rank: 304/514 (My chest!)
SAT: 1930 (630 M, 640 CR, 660 W) (My chest again!!!)
Financial Aid: Y
Subjective
ECs: Rowed crew during HS, volunteered at soup kitchen for a few years, research during college, part of EMS freshman year, a few other minor volunteering things.
Essays: Could break 8/10 for the transfer common app prompt if lucky, supplements probably won’t be as good, but I’m excited for the extended essay.
Recommendations: Probs not amazing for (hopefully) supplemental recommender, trying to get an old professor to write one which should be better. Regardless, my sociology professor should write a good one, maybe close to 9/10 if I’m lucky. She seemed to like me.
Where else am I applying: Northwestern, Yale, Swarthmore, Amherst, Haverford, Davidson, Duke, Columbia.
I’m perfectly content with staying at Case, as you can probably tell. Good luck to everyone! Remember, an acceptance or denial can not define you, only you can!
You’re transferring…for the second time? Is that allowed?
Nothing screams “I am happy where I am” like applying to 8 schools as a transfer…
In any case, I think most successful transfers are successful because they have a compelling reason to transfer. If you’re happy where you are that might make that a bit difficult.
@HydeSnark nice way to keep it civil, bro. I’d like to leave Case for some reasons, but the chances of getting into these schools are low, especially as a second transfer. However, I thought I’d just try and give it a shot, and I plan on highlighting the reasons I think I would benefit from studying at the institutions which I am applying to. A shot in the dark, but it’s better than no shot at all, at least for me.
Lol I had my transfer student interview today
@1052098 how did it go?
@SeinfeldFan1 I thought it went very well. We spoke about the Bhagvad Gita XD It wasn’t nearly as long as I expected it to be.
Just be warned, the competition is actually crazy. Met another transfer applicant who dropped out of college and started his own hedge fund. Talk about talented lol
When do we get notified if we got accepted/rejected?
@1052098 oh wow!
@Iapplyanywhere early May.
Hedge fund…hmmmmmmm…Must have their own money since I doubt any investor is going to trust someone who just dropped out of college with theirs.
Hi everyone! I’m a current student at Brown University. I’m thinking of transferring because I just don’t fit in at Brown . Also I’m really interested in specializing in cancer biology at UChicago. I’m really nervous about whether I get in or not. UChicago is the only place I applied to because it’s my dream school, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
@NenaTheCool
You probably have an infinitely better shot than any of us state school students since yours would be a lateral transfer. I think there’s nothing for you to worry about since your already at an Ivy League school.
I’m not so sure @1052098. I am not planning to transfer this year, but plan to apply to transfer next year (I am a freshman). I emailed UChicago, and they told me they compare students equally. Whether or not that is the case I’m not sure, but I’d like to think that the case is similar with what they do for high school: If you do the best with where you are, then that is more than good enough.
@NenaTheCool, I hope you get in! I’ll be rooting for you.
Might as well join the bandwagon here. Let me know what you guys think!
As far as UCLA, I am currently a pre-business economics major with a 3.82 GPA. My extracurricular activities carried over from high school as well as new activities from college are strong, although not SUPER exceptional. I also am posting my high school stats in case it may provide a better “chance me”
High School Stats:
weighted GPA: 4.7
UC GPA: 4.35
unweighted GPA: 3.96
SAT: 2200 (670 WR, 730 MA, 800 WR)
Subject Tests: Math 2 (800), US History (660 - ouch i know)
Class Rank: top 10% at competitive public high school
AP Scores: Calculus BC (5), US Government (5), Macroeconomics (4), Psychology (4), United States History (5), English Language and Composition (4), European History (3)
College Stats:
3.82 GPA
UCLA College Honors
UCLA Dean’s Honors List
UCLA NSCS Honors Society
Personal Information:
Asian Male
California resident
Financially stable
Essays I would rate as 7.5-8.5/10.
Recs are decent - unfortunately at UCLA, class sizes are like 500 students so professors are hard to reach. Therefore, I had to ask my TAs for a letter of rec. I’m confident that they sent at least decent recommendations, but not coming from professors might be a disadvantage.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
@1052098 Not at all! In fact, I feel like being from a state school gives you a more compelling reason to want to transfer to UChicago. While if I don’t get in UChicago, I’d still be getting a great ivy league education, so I feel like that’s something they may consider.
@ilovecollegetbh Thank you!!!
@armadaswim Your stats look pretty good! Is there any specific reason why you want to transfer? I’m just really curious on why other people are looking to transfer to UChicago. Thanks!
My checklist has disappeared…decisions are coming in close!
It says on the portal that decisions will be released early may
Lol this thread is so dead. Does this mean that less people will be applying for transfer?
no idea! maybe this is the calm before the storm haha @1052098
