UCI Admission

How difficult is it to get accepted into UCI???

Yes, it is considered a selective school with around a 38% acceptance depending upon intended major. Not sure what you mean by difficult but definitely not as difficult as other UC’s such as UCLA or UCB.
Check the UC website for an updated Freshman profile.

2016 profiles should be available next month.

What about being accepted as a Nursing major?

Nursing is ultra competitive with an acceptance rate if around 5% so make sure you apply to several schools.

@almaa_card123 hi! Are you applying as a freshman or transfer into the uci nursing program?

Im applying as a freshman @E2DuhJ

As @Gumbymom has stated, UCI and all of the UC’s are competitive. You have to meet the A-G requirements and demonstrate good grades just to get into the universities. Nursing is even more restrictive. Your grades have to be top notch and SAT/ACT score should be commensurate with those GPA’s.

@almaa_card123 as stated above, nursing is definitely one of the most selective majors and even more in UCI. Here is a link to the stats of admitted freshman this year with a 3.5% admitted rate. Definitely apply to more than one nursing school BUT keep in mind that UCLA and UCI are the only UC’s I know that admit you into the nursing major as a freshman. CSU’s require you to reapply junior year into the nursing program so during your freshman and sophomore years at a CSU, you will be a
“pre-nursing” major.

I got accepted to the UCI nursing program as a transfer for this Fall so I’m not too sure what to do to increase your chances in applying at the freshman level. Definitely check out that link and hope it helps!

So for CSU’s, i would apply to nursing school during my sophomore year in order for me to be in nursing school during my junior year? @E2DuhJ

@almaa_card123 To the best of my knowledge, yes. During the sophomore year, you have to apply to nursing school in order to be a “nursing” major. That is why it is recommended that you apply to several nursing programs during sophomore year to increase your chances of starting nursing school during your junior year. On the other hand, UCLA and UCI are a direct admission into the nursing major as a freshman.

SDSU and CSU Fullerton offer direct admit entry into their nursing schools for Freshman applicants. The rest of the CSU’s will require that you take the pre-req nursing courses and apply during your Sophomore year.

It would be easier to guide you if we understood your qualifications and budget.

I suggest do a community college program to save money and then transfer. Transfer students have a better chance of getting in and the requirements tend to be more chill than for freshman. Look into financial aid. Look at it this way, many community colleges have nursing programs that are 2 years. You could graduate as an RN and then transfer to uci For your last 2 years after saving tens of thousands in tuition. I could understand freshman entry to a school with a huge social life, but that’s not uci, just more of a serious mature vibe from what I can tell.
