Sorry, it was a typo, my D received CHP by email to check her portal which said the above msg
@letsshare I am a current student at UCI, and I actually do not see that stereotype as true. Yes, there are alot of commuters at UCI due to the fact how many students are close to other neighboring cities, but many are also dorming, and literally every dorm is filled. (There are still people waiting for a dorm).
Clubs, however, depends on which club it is. If it is a cultural club (VSA, Chinese student association, etc) will have ALOT of members, but if it is an occupational club (pharmacy club) will have a smaller amount.
Irvine is a campus only 50 years old. During the 80’s when I started working there most of the students lived on the peninsula (Newport Beach), or at home and would only come up for classes. The weekends were dead. There has been almost constant building ( UCI known as Under Construction Indefinitely) The campus has evolved with more housing added every year an increase in activities. I think it is now similar to most of the other UC campuses in terms of campus activity. I wouldn’t really label it a commuter campus any more.
@SpaghettiMom Hi, Congratulations on your acceptance!! Can you post stats please ? In state or OOS ?
Thanks
@Kittane still waiting here.
Still waiting as well. Did anybody get accepted into Drama yet?
or music?
@orionary and @ 19parent thank you for the feedback.
My son graduated from UC Irvine June of 2017. He lived on campus housing freshman year and off campus housing apartments(very nice and new housing being built for students) the final 3 years. My son worked on campus the first two years doing various jobs. Then the final 2 years drove the buses that pick up and drop students and people around the campus. He said on the weekends many students left and went home or to visit friends. Many of his friends from his apartment and the guys he shared housing with left on friday and came back Monday or late Sunday nights. But, my youngest son who is attending Cal State, Fullerton says the same thing. That everyone takes off on the weekends to go back home or wherever. Unless you have to stay on campus to complete projects or use the library and computer, or you work the weekends on campus, students will take off and go visit friends and family. I think its just a way to get away and clear your mind and refocus or whatever. So both my boys were within a 1 hour drive home by freeway. So it is convenient to get away if needed by the student attending schools near your parents or family and friends. Maybe not every weekend, but it is nice to get away once in awhile. As parents, we like to get away from work after an exciting Monday thru Friday work week. I can’t see myself hanging around at work every weekend even when they do allow us to work 7 days a week.
I signed up for Honors Experience Day hope to see some of you there.

Yes, I received my envelope today in the mail. In it was an official letter, some cute stickers, and poster, among other stuff.
