***UCI APPLICANTS C/O 2023***

@eggstremelyeggy: You are not required to accept CHP but I would give it a try at least for the first year and then decide if it is worth continuing. You are still required to take GE’s so getting the perks from CHP such as priority registration may give you better options at the beginning.

Below are the courses required the CS major along with a sample 4 year program plan at the bottom of the page on the link: http://catalogue.uci.edu/donaldbrenschoolofinformationandcomputersciences/departmentofcomputerscience/#majorstext

Edited: Also link for civil engineering sample schedule. Your comment about CS thew me off.

@eggstremelyeggy, not Gumbymom here, but for change of major, there are some majors that you can switch into during orientation, but not engineering. You can find change of major requirements for engineering here:
https://changeofmajor.uci.edu/engineering/

Thanks everyone!

@eggstremelyeggy you might want to take advantage of CHP your freshman year. Being in CHP moves you from the bottom to the 3rd from the top in selecting courses. You might also ask how the priority registration works if you are scheduling a course in another school. For instance, what if you want to get priority registration for a class that is in the School of Biology? Several years ago we were told that CHP only gave priority registration for the school that your major was in. I don’t know if that has changed or not.

Check out course registration information here: https://www.reg.uci.edu/enrollment/windows.html

Order of priority windows is:
Disabled
Regent Scholars
Campus Wide Honors Program (CHP)
Summer Bridge
Athletes
Veterans
Active duty
Reservists
Air Force Reserve Officer Training
Foster Youth/Former Foster Youth
Graduate/Limited
Seniors
Juniors
Sophomores
Freshmen

Within each class level, students are ranked in order of units earned to determine their individual enrollment windows. However, due to the large number of freshmen possessing the same amount of units, all freshmen are assigned enrollment windows within their class level. All freshmen have the equal probability of being assigned to any window within the freshmen enrollment period.

@lkg4answers, thanks for that information! Wow, it’s eye opening, never thought registering for classes could be so complex and hierarchical. This makes the CHP much more attractive. Will have to dig into other schools’ priority enrollment scheme now. Thanks again for the education.

Does anyone know when we’ll be receiving financial aid awards and the physical acceptance package?

When do regents come out?

The website says early March

What are the chances for non-CHP to get regents? Are they two completely different things? Or do most regents get CHP status as well? I don’t want to have hopes up too high if not getting CHP is a bad sign for regents.

Any engineering majors hear back?

Accepted a couple days ago (2/15/19) for the Nursing program with CHP recognition

@SpaghettiMom Accepted for CSE with CHP

@lkg4answers thanks for the info! Yes, maybe it will be wise to stay in CHP for the first year… haha. Say I have around 45-53 credits coming in as a freshman, would that boost me to sophomore standing? Is it still difficult to get classes as a freshman with sophomore standing?

@eggstremelyeggy I can’t say. There are other kids coming in with credits as well. It isn’t difficult to get a class per se but getting the professor you want (look at Rate My Professor) and the time you want is where having priority registration will help.

Just got some financial aid email. Did everyone who didn’t get acceptance yet get it?

@anya00Congratulations!

Hi all, is anyone familiar with the school involvement/spirit at uci? It seems in the past it has been seen as a commuter school with not a lot of student involvement but I am not sure if that is still the case.

Question for you CHP folks… are you being notified by email or mail?

By mail

log into your portal and Congratulations Campus Honors will be on the right side.
