Is waitlist first come first serve? Is there a benefit to waitlisting? Can you SIR to another school if you are on a waitlist? My son clicked the button to waitlist and he has until April 15 to cancel it.

@Tspeed14 it’s still not over, so hang in there! Did they still send u an e-mail?

@Tspeed14 Congrats on being wait listed. When did you find out? Thanks

LOL got waitlisted. Irvine was my back up too… Got in Davis and SB for computer science but get waitlisted to Irvine. Admissions process for all UC are weird.

@broken23 did they e-mail you or did u just check your portal?

@liveonboca you can waitlist (more than one place even) and still SIR (at ONE place). Then if you get off the waitlist and prefer to go to the waitlist school, you forfeit your deposit. They know you have to get in for housing etc some other place. But Davis is a great school. As for chance of getting off the waitlist, that fluctuates wildly. Last year UCSB let 28% off their waitlist, the year before NONE got off their waitlist. It really depends on how well they guess which kids they are first choice for of the places they get in.

@collegevetting Thank you. I think he is going with Davis, but he wants to wait to SIR until we visit in a couple of weeks. I am going to miss him being 6 hours away in Davis, compared to 1 hour away in Irvine, but it is up to him to make the decision on the right fit.

@liveonboca I can understand that, and Irvine has other benefits in terms of weather etc. But six hours isn’t so far, once he gets a car (second year or so) or has a friend with one. Davis is a terrific college town but kids do like to get back to a city on weekends sometimes.

@harromika You can throw in whatever information you want, as long as it is compelling and the UCs don’t already know about it.

A lot of people I know who didn’t get in yet are over qualified or under qualified hmmmm.

@visvim @shotgun Thanks! And I got it at 3:31am. I’m in California, not sure if that’s notable. 1780 SAT, 3.8 UC GPA. Extra curriculars were junior and senior class president at a school of 2500 students and I qualified for the state and national tournaments for speech and debate both years. I think my extra curriculars and essays were my strong points. I got accepted to SDSU, CSULB, CSUF, SFSU, and UCSC. I wish you all the best of luck, and even though it would be taking away my chances on the wait list, I still really really hope many of you get in I’ll just have to send in an amazing appeal letter GOOD LUCK FUTURE ANTEATERS!

@Tspeed14 what is your major?

@iamchickaddd Social Sciences!

So UCI on Twitter just confirmed that: “99% of [their] admission decisions for freshmen applicants will be released by Monday, March 24.”

I’m going to be in that 1% that’s doesn’t know until march 31st, I just know it.

Lol. Accepted to UCSD, waitlisted at Irvine. No waitlisted Irvine applicants were admitted last year, btw.

@chickeninabiskit Not true. Out of the 594 that opted in, 29 were admitted. 54/223 appeals were admitted.

@Hearts Is it safe to assume that the 99% are denied? Lol

@shotgun Hopefully not! I highly doubt that everyone on this forum who hasn’t received news yet would be rejected. If so…UCI will be missing out on an amazing group of students. They’re going to regret it!
Also, good luck today to everyone who applied to UCLA! I applied, but it’s a reach school for me. 'Tis but a dream

No they mean 99% if everyone, regardless of acceptance/wait list/ reject
