@grad2021 Is there really no chance that they would call anybody before that time? I am not sure how I would arrange any type of housing even if I wanted to go to UCI badly.
@go2planB sorry to ask and if you are comfortable sharing, what did you write on your appeal as I did as well.
@heyigotnoclue - gosh that was a few years ago, I would have to ask my daughter for exactly what it said. I’m trying to remember what we stated as “new and compelling” in our appeal letter. I think just making the appeal brought her application back to the top of the pile and re-evaluated, “compelling” or not. Being able to submit the two excellent letters of recommendation was a big plus. They didn’t ask for them, but it was a chance to send them in.
Something worked because her status changed to “Admitted” one week BEFORE the SIR deadline (allowed her to submit her housing application before the deadline, among other things that admitted students do after SIR). I believe that if we didn’t appeal, she would have had to wait until after the SIR deadline like all the other wait listed students that didn’t appeal. For 2016, someone posted stats, ~8000 offered a place on the waitlist, ~4000 accepted waitlist, ~800 were granted admissions off waitlist. Not great chances, but it varies from year to year. You never know about admissions - it’s a black box, not easy to figure out at all.
So I called the office today. (she sounded so done with me lol). She says that it will take 6-8 weeks just for the appeal to be APPROVED or denied. And then it will be rolling admissions off the waitlist that can go into the end of July(?) Which confused me because I’m pretty sure that they should be done by the end of June. But idk.
@iiarieaii - Remember that there are hundreds (maybe thousands?) of calls to UCI Admissions every year with questions about application decisions. They have a canned responses most of the time (6-8 weeks etc). But it’s not always true. As I mentioned, my daughter appealed her waitlist decision and was offered admission. The process took about 2 weeks - from submitting the appeal, changing status to “Appeal received, decision pending”, and then status changed to “Admitted” on her portal in the 3rd week of April, before the May 1st 2016 SIR deadline. It’s different for everyone (my daughter had a few different circumstances, which may or may not have made a difference).
As for waiting until the end of July, in 2016 the door closed the first week of June: “Thank you for participating in UCI’s waitlist. The campus has met its admission target and is unable to offer you a seat in the class entering fall 2016” (message was posted by a person rejected from the waitlist, here in CC). It differs from year to year. Maybe in 2016, most everyone who was offered admission to UCI submitted an SIR, making it faster to fill the admission quotas with a few people off the waitlist. Who knows…
I submitted my appeal on 3/26 I still haven’t heard back yet, but about a week ago my portal changed to say “Appeal Pending” in large letters at the top.
good luck to y’all! i declined my admission offer so hopefully that frees up some space for one of u amazing people to get in!
@embth7 that’s weird. When I submitted my appeal on April 3rd it gave me an email confirmation and my portal instantly changed to " Appeal Pending".
My portal did change a day or two after I submitted my appeal, the purple appeal section appeared below the regular green one and it said my appeal was pending. But a week or so ago my portal changed again and the purple appeal section switched to above the green one and above the purple section it says “Appeal Pending” in pretty large letters.
@embth7, I checked mine today and it does look like what you just described. It states that an update will be provided 4 to 6 weeks from when the appeal was submitted.
My portal says 4-6 weeks too, but when I called they said 6-8 weeks for appeals. I sent my appeal in on 3/26, so today is 6 weeks for me, but I haven’t heard anything yet.
do any of you guys know anyone who got in through the waitlist but didn’t do the appeal?
I really need UCI to send out those waitlist decisions before I go insane
Me too. Everyday I am like waiting for an email just for approval of my appeal cause at least it’s one step closer to acceptance. At the same time though, slowly accepting my fate lmao.
I’ve accepted my fate with the slim chances, but I just wanna know to move on with my life lmaoooo :))
