@lakeshow23: look up the average enrolled GPA and test scores for your major. Remember enrolled stats are usually lower than admitted stats but it does help you gauge your chances.
Everyone has a chance beyond the stats so if you have some compelling essays and show passion and dedication to your ECâs, there is always a chance.
GPA is unfortunately top priority for the UCâs so do you have a good reason for a lower than average GPA?
Odds are not with you based on the posted admission stats but your essays and ECâs are subjective so these cannot be quantified.
2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCI: 1%
2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCI: 4.13 (4.00-4.25)
2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCI: 1250-1510
Enrolled students (4.0 scale):
Percent who had GPA of 3.75 and higher: 82.00%
Percent who had GPA between 3.50 and 3.74: 12.00%
Percent who had GPA between 3.25 and 3.49: 4.00%
Percent who had GPA between 3.00 and 3.24: 2.00%
@Gumbymom any idea when UCI decisions might come out? I know itâs all a guess at this point.
Everyone has been saying that it will come out before or during UCLAâs. which is going to be this Friday the 20th at 5pm.
Tbh stats donât define your chances of getting into a college. they look at every aspect of the application, hence the process being a âholistic approach.â Getting âchancedâ on here is pretty much redundant. Thought to share what Iâm thinking as I read this chain.
I agree that stats arenât gonna make or break ur chances of getting in, but they are a good idea. Personally, I thought my stats made me a shoe in for the ucs. I also was pretty proud of my essays and extracurriculars, however iâve been waitlisted to all that I apply to. No one really understands the whole process of who is gonna get in. Good luck to everyone as i assume friday we will hear from uci as well as ucb and ucla.
Iâm just sad because my daughter only got into Davis, Santa Cruz and Riverside, which I know I shouldnât be upset about because others didnât get accepted, but we werenât even considering Davis because itâs so far away, but now we have to make a decision based on YouTube videos. I donât even know what to do. If she doesnât get into UCI sheâs going to be absolutely crushed. This is just a really hard experience when youâre not a top standardized test taker to get into these schools.
@CollegeMomCL2024 I completely feel the same way. College decisions are probably among the worst experiences this early on in life. Personally, I know my limits but I too was crushed throughout this whole process because I have been denied more than I have been accepted. My stats were never personally considered the best, but I thought I still deserved more than that. The whole process is tough. Best of luck to your daughter and family, itâll all be over soon, hopefully on a positive note.
@lisa9521: No clue when UCI will be posting decisions but thought this week would be the most likely.
@CollegeMomCL2024: You cannot take a formal tour of UC Davis but you can still do a self-guided tour of the campus and the town for your daughter to get a feel for the environment. My older son attended UCD and we are around 6 hours away in Southern California. He found that the distance was not an issue since he could fly home via Southwest in an hour (hopefully air travel will not be an issue in a few months) so if you have any specific questions about the travel issue, shuttle etc⊠you are welcome to PM me. UCD is a great option so do not let the distance scare her away.
@Gumbymom
Thank you, we are trying to figure it out. My parents say have her go to Cal Poly Pomona, but itâs hard to let an A school go, and go to a B school based on location close to home. She also got into CSULB, but we werenât thrilled with the campus. It seems very commuter. UC Davis campus and small city sound great and she is an animal lover so the cows are an added bonus lol. She wanted near a beach, close to home, a nice campus, and a hard to get in school. Sheâll have to take animals over beach, and not close to home. Very hard to decide what to do.
@CollegeMomCL2024 for what itâs worth, UC Davis is a really great school and a wonderful atmosphere for students. My son and I took the tour about 2 months ago and we felt a similar vibe to SLO. Everyone seemed very friendly, proud to go there and seemed to have a sense of community vs. when we visited UCSB and felt that it was much more individual. Of course, itâs a couple of hours of visit to make such a judgement call. My older son is at UCLA and I felt that of all of the UCâs we visited, Davis culturally felt the most similar. UCI for us was next and could take or leave the others although all very good schools.
@TheCollegeDad Thank you, glad to hear that.
@CollegeMomCL2024: Fingers crossed that UCI comes through for her.
@Gumbymom
After noâs at UCSD and UCSB, weâre not very optimistic, but hoping.
She did get into UCSC, but itâs also too far and I think Davis is a better fit. She refuses to go to Riverside, where she was invited for honors. We are hoping for a miracle from either UCI, or UCLA, or USC.
@CollegeMomCL2024: Please keep me updated.
I also agree with @TheCollegeDad and many other posters about their experience at UCD but ultimately it will come down to where your D feels is the best fit for her.
My UCD grad son currently works in Southern California but his goal is to eventually return to the Sacramento/Davis area and make it his permanent home. He really loved his time at UCD.
Any chance that decisions come out tomorrow? Iâd like to know about uci before ucla comes out.
I would guess that the decisions would come out on Friday along with UCLA. However, in the past UC Davis decisions came out on Fridays but this year they came out on a Thursday so anything is possible. We will just have to be patient and wait to find out.
According to one of the websites, the acceptances will be at 5:00 this Friday
