UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Is any one know do I have any chance to get in at this point?
Major: Film and Media Studies
GPA: 3.3 by the end of fall; 3.5 by the end of 1.31 update
Tag: None
This admission is super important to me, please help! Thank you.

Not trying to make anyone scared but one of my friends who applied as TAG ended up getting a C in one of the calculus courses. He didn’t hear back yet while all my other friends who TAG’d heard back.

Ok guys. I don’t think 1 C is going to make you ineligible for TAG. I got 1 C in my first computer science class, and I still got into UCI w/ CS major (TAG). I think you just have to show that you can do well consistently and then you’ll be in a competitive range. I got 4.0 GPA my recent semester and my grade trend is usually around 3.6-4.0 GPA. I messed up my first semester at CC (I got 3 Cs). However, I got As (& 1B) the rest of my semester (e.g. CS courses, math, GEs).

So… In general, if you recently got high GPAs, you have a higher chance of getting in. (However, your GPA has to be over 3.40 to be eligible + finish pre-req)

I also had A LOT of extracurricular activities (~7? Forgot…) and pretty solid personal statement. I’m not sure if that helped tho…

Do they count my winter gpa which I update before 1.30?

@AChen459 I believe every GPA, including the updated GPA, is taken into consideration of your admission.

@ComputerStudent Thanks!Hopefully they can consider it because I failed an English class and dropped my gpa to 3.3 by the end of fall semester; however, I retake it in winter session, and push my a little bit higher.

It depends on the class. On assist is says: “For Fall 2019 applicants, a minimum grade of B will be required in all major prerequisite courses.”

So if you get a C in a random class, I don’t think it will matter that much. But if you get a C in a calculus course as a computer science major, then you won’t get admitted.

@GaussX Oh…I got a C in Calc II in the summer session. That might explain why even tho I TAG’d, I still haven’t heard from UCI. Great.

I guess my TAG is voided.

I got a C during the last summer in bio but I managed all B’s and A’s for fall my gpa is around 3.5 now also my major doesn’t necessarily require bio I applied as public health but i was doing pre med classes so idk if my tag got voided or what.

I finished all my major requirements with A’s though I just don’t know what to think anymore like they’re saying “most tags have been released” and I see last year forum where people got their tag voided and got waitlisted the last moment. I think i might give up checking the portal and assume the worst. Cause honestly this is too stressful for me

“For Fall 2019 applicants, a minimum grade of B will be required in all major prerequisite courses.”

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is for computer science majors. It doesn’t apply to every major.

@GaussX I got in as TAG for computer science. In fact, I got a C for physics pre-req and C for my first computer science course, which is required for my major. So, just because you got that 1 C for your major-related course, doesn’t mean you would be automatically ineligible for TAG. It really depends on how you do well in general. I believe there are other factors to this.

Maybe you are right. I am not a counselor or anything. It is just my interpretation of that statement. So, take it with a grain of salt. But I don’t think CS at UCI requires physics courses. That’s what I saw on assist at least. Physics classes are required for computer engineering, but not for computer science.

@ComputerStudent Thank you for your input! It eased my mind a little bit

But I am still gonna expect the worse right now.

@NervyBoi Np. :slight_smile:
@GaussX You’re right. Physics is not required for UCI’s computer science major. However, other UC/CSU requires it for computer science.

@AChen459 Yeah. Just boost your GPA. Try to do your best to get all As. Cuz for me, at the beginning of my CC experience, I did so bad my GPA dropped to 3.2. Then I worked really hard to get all (… well mostly) As the rest of my CC years. I changed my study technique after I was traumatized by that 3 Cs the first semester. I really thought I couldn’t get into any decent UC or even CSUs. But now, I got into (mostly) all UCs and CSUs that I applied to. I didn’t get any rejection letter… yet (This excludes Cal Poly SLO (got waitlisted) & UCs that didn’t release anything yet)

@ComputerStudent Which CS course did it articulate to? My friend got a C in calc and it presumably voided his TAG agreement.

@jeetusSwo I’m not sure what you meant by “Which CS course did it articulate to?”
However, I got a C in a CS course that’s equivalent to “I&C SCI 21 Introduction to Computer Science I”, my first CS course

@ComputerStudent ICS 21 is not a required class to transfer in. The five main classes to fulfill with a grade of B or higher is Math 2A & 2B and ICS 31 ~ 33. I think that’s why you still got in through TAG even with a C.

@jeetusSwo Oops I misread the assist. Nvm I did do ICS 31- 33. I didn’t take I&C SCI 21 Introduction to Computer Science I. I just looked at the spacing on the assist and thought it was equivalent to it. But yeah. I did take ICS 31-33. I just misread it.

Basically on my CC’s side, (I’m in CCSF btw) I took CS111A, CS111B, and CS111C. The spacing was off, that’s why I thought it was equivalent.

So either way… my TAG was still valid despite getting a C in CS111A.
