@ComputerStudent Yeah I understand but it also says “Introduction to computer science courses do not meet this requirement”. You probably took other CS courses that articulated to other ICS courses.
If it articulated to ICS 21, it probably didn’t count.
Edit: whoops just saw your second post. So you got a C In a ics31 equivalent and still got TAGd? Nice!! Didn’t know that was allowed. Congrats tho
@jeetuSwo Yeah. Sorry for the mix-up lol. I believe it’s allowed depending on the situation. I took more programming classes afterwards, like Python programming (got an A). I think if you show them that you improved (overall) they will allow you in w/ TAG still. It was only my first semester that I got any Cs. Later on, I only got As (in classes required by UCI). I gots Bs in Physics tho… Physics is freak’n hard. However, physics is not required for UCI’s CS major.
I read this thread with great curiosity. If you have a TAG and you did not get lower than a C in any of your class this past semester and you have maintained the required and/or contracted GPA, you should be fine. My advice is not to worry about things you cannot control.
@AChen459 Just know that, at the end of the day, the purpose of going to UC/CSU is to get a a decent job. The amount of effort you put in will pay back in the future. Literally, almost no one is going to care what UC/CSU you went to once you get a job. Learn practical skills and work hard. If you didn’t do well, change the way you’re studying or study more. I always look at the amount of time and study methods that Harvard students do. They study A LOT (and efficiently), even if they are super smart.
do you guys think they also take into consideration how many units you are taking? Because I started taking 12 units my first semester at CC and then I kept taking more and more. However, my second semester I didn’t do so well due to the multitude of harder courses I took so I got mostly Bs and a couple of As. But last fall I got straight As and this semester I’m taking 19.5 units. I was just wondering if they take that into consideration because I don’t have the highest GPA (3.56) so I’m worried that one semester might have thrown me off
@Ohm888 Hi! Are you sure about having too many units on the last term can work against a student? Just the same way I’m hearing this I have heard in the past that admissions strongly consider an applicant that has a load of units on their last term? How are 8 units looked at for the last term? I am currently taking 4 units (statistics)now because two classes (3 units) (1unit) were short. I updated my official letter grade to UCI admissions and UC application center.
Also, does it look bad taking statistics on the last term?
@C105213 They like rigor for sure, but for example, one TAG campus won’t accept more than 18 units last term. It depends on your GPA. Obviously, if you’re a 4.0 taking 20 units last term will likely get a pass. But if you’re borderline, they may be hesitant about a high number just because of concerns the student won’t deliver.
8 units, if everything else is done, it should be fine. UCD TAG has some rules to fulfill, but otherwise it’s ok. Stats last term depends on campus. UCSB used to be picky if there was no other math grade anywhere. Not sure if that’s still in force. I never heard it affecting UCI. Most TAGs want it done by fall.
@Ohm888 thanks a lot! I am a general applicant and I just didn’t know how to feel about it. This gives some kind of hope. Stats is the only course I am taking since I’m done with the other two courses that were short. I hope they can/did see that and my previous semesters to give them an idea of where they can place their bet on stats Im taking.
You guys need to realize GPA is not everything. Major prep, and essays have the same impact. Of course 3.0+ is competitive but so much more goes into it than looking at GPA. Stay positive.
No matter how much they trot out holistic, GPA still rules the day. Here’s an interesting article I saw on it yesterday, actually. It was quite insightful. (About freshmen but still applies.)
It’s called “The UC Needs to Be Transparent About Who Gets In.”
Considering the lack of admissions notifications on the thread…Seems like there may be no more decisions until next week and the final weeks of April. I wish everyone luck. I gotta day I’m still on edge since I tagged and haven’t heard anything makes me wonder if I somehow voided it but I checked it all out. Anyhow, like someone mentioned it’s pretty much out of our hand by now. I hope nobody is as freaked out as me though ?
@Ohm888 thanks for the tip I keep hearing that but I’m just kind of anxious of the whole process. Especially since my parents have pressured me since day 1 to go to UCI. I do love UCI though so it’s not a bad thing but gives me extra worry
Hoping I get a decision by next week. I have been checking the portal every day, it’s going to be such a relief once decisions have been released. (Non- Tag Applicant)
