UCI Financial Aid

3.147 GPA
civil engineering major
GEs for my major done
essay: 9/10
EC: a couple (I work too now, but I didn’t get a chance to list that on the update)
rejected winter quarter 2009 from UCI and UCLA (with a 3.2 GPA, 7/10 essay, one less EC, and GEs not done)
from: UCB
applied to: UCSD, UCLA, UCI
pending: all

from Cal? really? do you mind if I ask why? I’m considering going there if I get in, and you happen to be the second person I “know” who is transferring out of there. And I would say you have a pretty good chance at UCI. Not sure about about SD or LA since Im still pending for both.

why is my life pending for UCI still?

3.64 transfer
all Pre-reqs done, except calc 2(UCI told me i dont need to?)
i MIGHT be short on units since i was with ucsb as 3 classes didnt transfer!! (9 units!!.. 58 left)
business honors program, deans list, 2 jobs, volunteer basketball coach for little league, pre-law association.
essays, i’d say 7/10… talked about my transition between life here and where im from.
oh and im from california non-cc, non-uc, non-csu (private)

i think the only thing really highly against me is my total unit count. if they look at it like ucsb did, then im 100% rejected!

Ok well there are several reasons:

 1. I’m not much of a norcal person (I miss san diego tons) and I guess the excitement of going away from home subsides by the 2nd year
 2. I’m not satisfied with my relationships with my friends up here. They are nothing compared to my HS friendships. They’re quite superficial
 3. I don’t get to have a car up here and I feel stuck. In socal, I will have a car
 4. I’m sick of the competition at Cal (I know just as much will exist at UCSD and UCLA. That’s why I’m leaning most towards UCI). I want to have a higher GPA. I’d rather be a big fish in a small pond

I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

UCI is the most lenient of all the UC’s(besides maybe UCR or UCM) about having the 60 unit cap. They will allow you to take summer courses to finish your 60 units, whereas UCLA/UCSB/UCSD are very strict about their 60 unit cap by the Spring before you transfer.

caltouci…I am also a SoCal girl and I was kind of turned off by Cal when I visited a few months ago. I would say keep your hopes up for UCLA…but settling for UCI is not a bad idea. I actually live 10 minutes away from UCI and this area will be great for you if you’re from SD. much easier to adjust to, and only an hour and a half drive from your hometown.

im from norcal and i dont like cal myself… i feel its decent, but the area is overrated. i hate that theres homeless people like right outside the campus at just a pretigeous school… idk, i like the LA campus… and SB campus…

i used to live in irvine, so im kinda ehhh about goin back, but i dont mind it… but cal, NO!

haha I actually like the campus itself. I love how people are soo open minded and outgoing. But the crime rate does make it scary to go out at night. Parking and driving up here is so complicated too.

i think cal is more of a hit or miss… some of my friends that went there straight outta high school either HATED it or LOVED it! so… i hated it =P
even though i didnt go there…

Oh, thanks everyone. I was really starting to get frustrated at UCI for not getting the Financial Aid up…hahaha. [:

I just checked my Aid at UCI right now and it changed from

“Your file is complete and we are expecting to begin awarding financial aid in mid-April. You will receive notification from us once your award information is available.”

to

“Your financial aid award is currently being reviewed. Your updated award should be available within the next ten days. If it has been more than ten days, please contact our office at (949) 824-6265”

mine also changed to the same one as iTransfers…thanks for letting me know. that change must have happened within the last hour though, since I literally just checked an hour ago and it was the old message. Good to know we will find out soon though.

im so tired of waiting for uci… i expected to hear from them back in march =/ now i think i’ll hear from ucb/ucla… even usc before lol

Proof of Citizenship 02/10/2009 05/01/2009 Needed

You reported on your application that you are a U.S. citizen, but the Social Security Administration could not confirm this. Please provide a copy of your birth certificate, Certificate of Naturalization or U.S. Passport.

zzz can’t believe they couldn’t confirm it -_- Now I have to waste a stamp + paper to send that crap!

They made me do that too. Even at Cal I have to do it every year.
