ok so i’m a sophmore in hs, and my new semester just started. i want to go to uci but i was worried i wouldn’t get accepted because my gpa doesn’t meet the standards. basically, my freshman year, i passed with a 2.0 and my first semester of sophmore year, i passed with a 2.2. does anybody know what i need for grades in the next 2 years to get accepted. i really want to start trying.
You need a minimum UC GPA of 3.0 (capped weighted) for 10-11th to apply to any UC and for UCI you want a target UC GPA of 4.0.
You may be able to get your UC GPA above 3.0 by end of Junior year so think UC Merced/Riverside and Santa Cruz as possible schools. UCI may be out of range.
If you get A’s in all your classes along with taking some UC approved Honors and AP classes, you could still be competitive for some of the UC’s I listed.

I suggest you do community college. They don’t care about your HS gpa, only that you have a diploma. It saves you money, it teaches you how to be a greater student, and the gpa requirement is lower for transfers than for high school applicants. Also you walk away from community college with an AA degree so at least you have something if some unforeseen event takes you out of school. To me it sounds like your gpa isn’t where it needs to be for a direct transfer out of HS to be worth the risk. Keep in mind it’s like 15 to 30 thousand a year, and you want to succeed not struggle to get by. Community college is where you grow into a top notch student, at least in my experience. You aren’t missing some big social party scene anyways at most schools around here unless we are talking Ucla or UCSD.
