UCI - Next Flaghip campus(ie Cal and UCLA)?

Hahaha now I'm really laughing UCD has double the research funds of UCI. UCI pales in comparison.

I chuckle at the irony of voiceofreason's name.

research funding is great if you can do something with it to raise you above your peers. If UCD has double the funding, why hasn't it taken advantage of its situation and helped its ranking a bit more (since we all know that's so vitally important)? With your logic, it seems like UCD should be ranked 20th in the nation compared to being 40+.

Almost like an organization that has double the amount of cash in hand but produces the same revenue in the same industry. If you look at it that way, having more research funding may actually be worse for UCD, since it is less efficient with its funding ;).

Research does a lot for the ranking (are you speaking US News?), but it's only a part.

Let this thready die. Die, thread, die.

I concur.

Die, thread, die.

The increase in funding has been recent, and significant. The rankings were due to an error. You all know that by now. It should be interesting to see the rankings over the next five years.

1) Berkeley doesn't have a med school
2) Irvine's med program does not top Davis' in any way shape or form. ho ho, not by a long shot.

DIE!!!! Die already.

I can't believe a thread with such a ridiculous title went to 5 pages.

To deny Berkeley's close ties to UCSF is uninformed, but sure, it has no medschool.

Die. Die. Die.

Why should this thread die? If you don't like this thread you are welcome to ignore it and read something else. I don't think it has such a ridiculous title; I think UCI's ambition is inspiring. In fact it's something I wish I could see more at another UC campus...

Ask a mod to lock it if it so suits the thread creator.

Yen I just chuckle in general dude ;)

This thread should die because has no new or useful information to be added to it, only long term speculation. People should go start a "Which is better, UCI or UCD?" thread and continue, or something like that. Yes, I'm aware I can desubscribe and probably will, and that my last couple posts have perpetuated the thread, and will probalby not post again unless more things should be said, but I do hope the thread dies.

We had a UCD vs. UCI thread earlier...it turned into pointless banter too, worse than this one.

You realize that according to this criterion, half the threads on these forums should die? ;)

Many threads go off-topic and actually I wouldn't mind a UCD v. UCI discussion here. They're pretty closely ranked. I always thought UCI is better.

Sure, you're obviously correct, but I'm not against threads going off topic- only if they go to uninteresting, unmeaningful, useless insulting banter and repitition and distant speculation and to things that are only somewhat related.

I'll just desubscribe and let the genius continue.

:p

I am the creator of this thread. Sorry if it created havoc for some folks.. I thought there was some good posts early on.

I don't know if I have the power to end this thread, so if someone knows how to, please send me a note.
