UCI or UCSB as a Transfer Student

After completing two years at a CCC, I got into UCI and UCSB, but I don't know where to go. I applied as a Chemistry major at UCI, but they said I didn't not qualify in my admissions letter, so instead they put me down as a Public Health Policy major in their School of Ecology, which I did not add as an alternate major. (Would I be able to change my major as a transfer student?) For UCSB, I got into their College of Letters and Science as a BioChem major.

I'm very confused about where to transfer to. UCI seems to be the logical choice because they have an extensive Biological Science field, whereas UCSB is more for Engineering. Then it seems that UCSB has the nicer campus and surroundings, and UCI seems to be in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks a lot for reading and your opinions!

It is still just undergraduate school, so you will fare well at either school. Because you are a transfer student, I highly recommend you go to UCSB and dive right into your major. You could try transferring into your preferred major at UCI after taking one year of clearing the requirements, but you might lag behind a few quarters, or even a year. UCI is definitely not in the middle of nowhere. It IS in the suburbs of Irvine, but it's next to Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Drive a little and you can get into the heart of Irvine. UCI is basically in the middle of the more major portion of socal. It's a part of the OC and you can drive up or down to LA or SD, respectively. If you truly feel you would rather be at UCI because of the program's strengths and the environment, shoot for your dreams. If you like UCSB more, go there and dive into your major asap =].

thanks a lot!
