UCI or UCSD for math

My friend got into both Sd and Irvine for math. He initially wanted to major in aerospace engineering, but he got put into applied math for sd and math for irvine. He's wondering if it's easy to switch majors from math to engineering? And he's wondering which would be better to attend. Thanks in advance!

Engineering in general is very competitive to get into, so if your friend is looking for “less” competition, tell him to go to UCI. I mean of course at UCI there will still be competition, but it won’t be as hard core and intense as UCSD since it is more science orientated.

Hmm, but would that mean that sd is possibly better in engineering than at irvine?

SD is known for their sciences. However, UCI is a very well rounded school and they are actually growing academically and in terms of rank. I was accepted to both UCI and UCSD as an engineering major, but I chose UCI because it is closer, campus is cleaner/better, and less competition (compared to SD)

Oh I see I see, well thank you!

Why are you posting for you friend?

He didn’t have access to internet at the time and I have a smartphone so I asked for him.

Engineering is fairly easy to transfer into regardless of the school. This is assuming the student can at least achieve a 2.7 major GPA and 3.0 overall GPA (school requirements may vary). Those are definitely feasible :].
