UCI Premeds

Hello all, just wanted to make a thread for those interested in the medical field as well going to medical school, we can all help each other make great decisions as well as help those in classes similar.

Just a bit about myself, I just finished my freshman year at UCI a few days ago, a biological sciences major, and live in northern California.

So what are your plans over the summer? What classes are you taking next year?

All you bio and pre-med majors will be in for a real treat on your second year of uci. Just be real prepared and serious. Goodluck and congratz on your first year. :)

I had to dig a little bit back to find this thread lol. I’m an incoming freshman and I plan to follow the premed track, I am a bio science major and I’ve just been kicking it over the summer, not really doing anything but hanging out with friends and spending time with the fambam. I’m socal.

For you current Pre-med students, which writing course did you take? Humanities or Writing39B? Any suggestions?

why are you all still following the trad route?

Trad route?
And if anyone could answer the writing classes question, that would be a big help :)

bio/chem/phys background.

^for me, I really love bio. I had a very inspiring teacher in high school and it’s one of my favorite subjects. Also, the courses required for the major are a lot of the same courses you need for med school and to prepare for the mcat, so it saves me time. But reason #1 is more important.

is it true you only are paid around 50k in residency?

^
Yeah, that’s true. You get paid around $35,000 for your first year of interning and then around $50,000 or less for residency. I have a cousin who’s currently starting her fellowship at UCI medical and only after she’s done will she start to make BANK. BUT IT’S SO MUCH MONEY, $170,000-$220,000.
