UCI rejection appeal?

Hi all. I recently got rejected from UCSB and UCD, however, I only really care about UCI. It has been my dream school since I was a little 4th grader. I have yet to hear from them, but I am expecting the worse and hoping for the best. My grades tanked Sophomore year, with reason. My grandmother was diagnosed with lymphoma and was very weak up until her death. With my mother owning her own business, I was left in charge of caring for gramms, while trying to juggle Varsity Football and schoolwork. Getting home from Football at 6 and caring for my grandmother was all I had time for at the time. My grades went up dramatically Junior year when we were able to get need help for my grandmother. I was wondering if this is a good basis for writing an appeal to UCI? This is not meant to be a sob story, I am just asking for advice. Thank you for your input.

I would say definitely appeal in your case if you do get rejected. However if your grades dramatically got better, admissions would surely notice that. Think about it; it’s better to increase your GPA rather than decrease it (obviously). But appealing shows them how much more you want it than others who don’t. I’m still waiting for them to make a decision as well. :confused:
Did you not write about your situation in your personal statements? If you did, then it’s kind of repeating it.

@MinaMadness
The wait is killing me :confused: thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. I wrote about her situation, only in the aspect of how her sickness has inspired me to enter the medical field. I did not mention caring for her at all. I wish you luck in hearing from them! :)

@Classynotnasty
Thanks; you too!

why didnt you put this down on your uc application?
They have the section labeled any special circumstances for a reason.
I got into UCI UCSB AND UCSD. Still waiting for UCLA

Good luck with the appeal. If that doesn’t work and assuming your a Cali resident and it sounds like you are, consider community college then UCI. The dream soesn’t have to be over, just delayed. GL.

Thank you for your input guys! I could definately still use more, from someone who got accepted by appealing if at all possible. GOOD LUCK TO fellow applicants!

@Nessa58 UC Apps fell during football season so I pretty much had to rush it (obviously not a good idea) but what is done is done i guess. Goodluck with UCLA!

Also, how much better is my chance if my alternative major is Asian American Studies(random, i know) if my first is the most impacted (biological sciences)? I thoght it would be better to choose Asian American Studies rather than Undeclared…

God, this wait is killing me.

As someone who got in through appeal, I would definitely suggest for you to appeal on the basis of your grandmothers illness. State your increase in grades and determination as a reason for your reconsideration in to the school. Make sure you also have recommendation letter attached. And don’t forget to include reasoning as to why your appealing to UCI, and not accepting another college’s acceptance, i.e. UC Irvine offers (blank) that other colleges don’t. Best of luck!

@UCIrvinside thank you for you reply. I thought you only need a letter of rec if they requested it? Would one from my coach do?

Rejected. Time to appeal now!

Rejected. This appeal is going to be the best work I have ever done.

We can turn our appeal in after march 31st, right? :O

the deadline to mail everything is April 15th

In my appeal to UCI, I talk about how my grandmother’s failing health hindered me from achieving my full academic potential, because I was responsible for her care and health. I talked about how it took a lot of time out of my schoolwork.

I obviously wrote more in depth in the letter, but is that good enough for appeal?

Are supporting documents required??

hey. i also made an appeal to uci. have any of you guys seen a change in your portal that says something about your appeal? or anything?

how long does it take for the status to change??? i mailed my appeal in on friday

i dont know. im wondering as well. i checking everyday to see if theres a change.

I don’t mean to turn you down, but so far I never seen anybody got accepted through appeal around me and they respond with appeal after deadline for SIR. For the safety, pay the deposit for at least one different school.
