UCI/UCSB/UCD/Cal Poly SLO

hi
new to this forum and im sure you get a lot of these whats the better college.

based on uc irvine, uc santa barbara, uc davis, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo which is probably the best for engineering? im probably going in electrical/manufacturing or some kind of engineering along those lines. could you rank them what you think is better based purely on academics?

thanks

i think ucsb compared to ucd isn't good for engineering. you can check the college specific threads for more information.

well i was thinking of UCI originally since i live close and lots of people are going there that i know (im a shy guy) so i just wanted to know how are the engineering courses compared academically

any help please?

Check out the following link for US news 2005 engineering ranks:

http://bbs.taisha.org/viewthread.php?tid=343827

personally though, I'd say

1.UCSB/SLO (tough call)

2.UCD

3.UCI

ucsb, great school, rising in prestige, getting increasingly selective, right on the ocean, beautiful, fun, research opportunities, everything you could ever ask for.

how difficult would you think UCSB vs SLO be in engineering. I am right now enrolled for UCSB-economics and SLO-manufacturing/industrial engineering. however ucsb i will prob change to an engineering.

im also concerned about the 4 year pass rate for SLO which is like 17%.

socially im a shy person and party school isnt my #1 thing but how do you think sb is in that area? i would think SLO would be more of a nerdy school since its an polytechnic.

thanks

i'm going to ucsb. if you are shy i will be your friend and help you break out of your shell. hahaha.

Are you sure you can switch into engineering from econ at UCSB. I hear that its hard to switch into engineering at all of the UCs.

not sure. according to my brother who goes to uci he says its no problem whatsoever

SLO is very good for engineering, SLO is basically geared to ship out experienced undergrad students out onto the engineering work force right away.

The UC's however are more research oriented and less technical than SLO. But, as a result, you are better equipped for grad schools.

UCSB engineering in particular has "the 5 year plan", where you can get a BS + MS in 5 years.

well im planning to go MBA after undergrad. any different routes after saying that?

and is the 5 years ms and bs true?

Yeah, SB has quite a few BS+MS programs...I know someone doing it in chem.

hows the difficult at SB? i hear its the least studying school of the UCs but then i hear that its like split 50 50. some study hardcore and some simply dont at all.

Davis also has a good engineering program, and a 5 year BS+MS program.

how difficult are these 5 year programs. are they actually doable in 5 years. also what is sb, davis, and irvine known for (like majors) and how difficuilt compared to each other? to other colleges?

thanks

suggestoins would be good :)

hmm

alright

coudl you rank UC IRvine, UC Santa Barbara, and Cal Poly SLO in which is the best in engineering? (and eventually into MBA)

thanks

our tour guide at UCSB said it is VERY hard to change majors...she said that you end up taking an extra year and that costs big $$$ just to switch.
