I got into both schools with a computer engineering major. I am lost as to which school I should choose. Could anyone compare the pros/cons of the two schools, or even better, the computer engineering programs at the two schools.
Thanks in advance.

Bump..Help Please~!

i would like to know how good ucd engineering school is as well because i cant break the tie in my head btwn ucd, uci, and cal poly slo

UCD probably has better academics overall although UCSB's aren't too shabby. UCSB has a good social scene if you like huge parties and living on the beach, on the other hand it isnt for everyone. Lot's of drinking and drugs. I don't know very much about UCD's social scene but it does have a better reputation. I can't tell you much about the computer engineering programs.

UCSB is ranked better in Engineering over UCD and UCI. Davis and UCI is ranked better overall because of their medical school which UCSB do not have. Not a lot of asians here =) Mostly white intelligent sexy, hot people and surfer wannabes hehehe

Well let me be the first to back up the UCD engineering school...
1. 98% of graduating engineers get a job in their field of choice, and lab of choice, within 1 year of graduation 80% of those are within 6 months
2. After taking the intro Chemical Engineering class, i can tell you thee professors know their ****. they have background experience, and have been in some of the leading engineering companies around the world, they know what is needed to become a sucessful engineer and they are intent on teaching it to their students.

I recommend not choosing your college based on how they are ranked though! i would suggest you coming to the campus, if it is possible, and experiencing it for yourself. In going to college you need to be entering into a city that you feel comfortable in, for me it was Davis. Chekc out the campus, talk to the students... this place really is amazing, and alogn with being the most fun ive ever had in 1 year of school, im being challenged intellecutally.

Since it's not about rank in your opinion it's UCSB then all the way. UCSB is the most beautiful campus of all UCs and the social scene is by far the best. No cows here too lol

you could say that, but stil check otu the campuses, i checked out UCSB, but it just wasn't for me, also ive been in davis for almost 7 months now... havent seen 1 cow yet.

You might not have seen cows but I'm sure you've smelled them. lol

I'm deciding between these two myself, but I've spent quite a bit of time at both schools, so i can tell you about campuses;

UC Santa Barbara is further from a major urban area (Los Angeles is around 100 miles away), but Davis has more access to different kinds of areas, i.e Sacramento (Excremento) ~25 miles away and the Bay Area (100 miles to San Jose, closer to San Francisco or Oakland.)

Santa Barbara has a very active social life, though i've seen quite a bit of drug use, which I have never seen at Davis. They're both beautiful campuses and great college towns, though Santa Barbara has their infamous beach and one of the best climates in the world. Santa Barbara does tend to draw the Californian stereotype; lots of gorgeous women. Davis is not quite as attractive in that aspect.

Davis is very bike-friendly (the city logo is a bike), but Santa Barbara is also very exercise-oriented (the wannabe surfers and not-so-wannabe beach blondes.) Davis has a much calmer, though definitely existent social life.

If you think you have a real wild side, go to Santa Barbara. There's not that much to pick and choose academically. Davis is great for those with more conservative social norms. But please, visit both!

Ah, and one more thing; Davis does have lots of cows. The previous replier claiming never to have seen any must have been walking around with his eyes shut. And at all costs, don't get housing in Tercero! It's downwind from the cows, and I need not elaborate.

Good luck!

what about ucd and ucsb with a psychology major? ive visited both and i love both...and got into both....i know ucsb is a party school but man is it beautiful....but then ucd is closer to where i live and seems less wild so to speak...so who knows...which one is more "prestigious" at least for my area of study

The smell can't be as bad at that horribly smelling pond of waste....haha. Yea, I have good friends at SB its hit or miss, if youre not into partying the social life can be rough. Davis has something for everyone really. Though if youre into sports, the place is pretty sports crazy with over half the students participating in Intramurals. For those interested in the city life that is Davis, check out http://www.daviswiki.org/

UCSB does not rank higher to UCD overall.

go check out

But UCSB is more fun than davis. so you decide.

UCSB is within the Top 10 in Material Engineering!

i heard ucsb is best for engineering

go to UCSB its a very good school my friend is in the comp eng. major its a better school, but maybe not for bio/sciences
