uci/ucsb/umich

california student who got accepted into all 3 - uci for business admin, ucsb (honors program) for econ/accounting, and umich for econ. Have trouble deciding which path to pursue. Would like to work in investment banking/finance, but wouldn’t mind accounting either if it comes to that. Financially, ucsb gives me the best offer, but not by much. I don’t really know how I’d handle the weather in Ann Arbor, but it’d be such a waste to turn down umich…

any advice is appreciated

edit: also heard that recruiting for umich lsa students is overshadowed by Ross kids…

We don’t know how you would handle the weather either in AA.

Parent of a UMich freshman here. We’re from CA. Adjustment to AA was no big deal. Wear clothes in the winter and you’ll be fine. If you’re someone who gets Seasonal Affective Disorder, then UCI or UCSB would be best for you.

Did you visit the campus in the winter? That’s always a smart thing to do, if you’re unsure of the environment. We visited last year and when we arrived it was lightly snowing and cold, mid-20’s at night. 30’s during the day. So we knew what we’re getting ourselves into.

As for recruiting, I haven’t heard anything like that, but two things. For the Class of 2022, Ross enrolled 447 students. LSA enrolled 4,163 students, so I’ll bet the best of each school does recruit very well.

for I-banking, Michigan-Ross.

For accounting, any one of them will do as the Big Four recruit everywhere, even at the Cal States.

If costs not an issue, Ann Arbor is the quintessential college town.

@bluebayou I was already rejected from Ross, so that option for me is gone. I’d have to major in Econ and take additional Ross classes on the side.

side note * was already rejected from Ross, would be an econ major

Ann Arbor is certainly survivable, especially for young kids, but I advised my kids against applying to Michigan solely because of the weather.

All great. Mich the best overall experience for my money. Academics and big ten sports coupled with an incredible college town environment.

UCSB honors the best academic option in terms of access and support.

But outside of Cali, Michigan is a the more recognized name in my business circle. But Cali is a bigger economy than 90 percent of the world’s nations.

I would choose between UCSB and UM. Make it a head to head choice.

heck, inside California, Michigan is probably a more recognized name…it’s was one of the two top publics for decades.

??

@privatebanker Yeah, my final two options are UCSB and Umich… I kinda just threw uci in there to see what others thought about it lol. Though others may think there’s an obvious choice, this is just so hard for me to decide. Both UCSB and Umich have there pros and cons, and I just don’t know at this point…
