So I am undecided between two schools UCI and UCSD. I intend to go to medical school after. My major at UCI is Biological sciences and at UCSD it is Microbiology.
Both schools are neck and neck right now for me.
So I am unsure what to pick.
UCSD is my hometown but I feel like I would be more comfortable at UCI. Although I know UCSD is better for medicine I am still not sure. My brain says UCSD my gut says UCI.
From a aspiring medical student which is best to pick out of the two? I am really at a crossroad right now.
Thank You
Both will give you an excellent education and for Medical school, neither school will give you an advantage or disadvantage. You want attend a school where you have the best chance for a high GPA and medically related EC’s/Internships/Research. Go with your gut since a happy student will be a successful student.
I was looking at pre-requisites for medical school and noticed GPA was a factor and I feel that UCI will give me a better chance to have a higher GPA and class rank since it seems less competitive than UCSD even though I know they are both UC schools.
How do I find out which has better research opportunities / internships?
Try checking out the website for the Career centers for each school. Some research positions and/or internships may be posted on the websites, unfortunately a lot of Research/Internship positions may be posted or emailed from the departments to enrolled students, so internally. If you attend a admitted students day, you could go to the Biological science departments and ask.
Seriously thank you. I do plan to attend both of the schools´ admitted students day and I will definelty ask about the opportunities they offer and their statistics on admitted medical students.
I suspect that there may be better research opportunities for undergrads at UCI because UCSD has more/better grad students. I could certainly be wrong since it’s not my field and it’s been years since I lived/worked at Irvine. But definitely worth making inquiries.
