Uci vs ucsb

i wanted to major in business econ at ucsb, but when i transfer they will no longer offer that major (Fall 11). my question is, which skool has a better program UCI business econ or UCSB economins and accounting? how are the two majors different? also how different is UCSB'S econ and acct major from the old business econ?

last, if i decided to transfer to UCI what would be a decent gpa? I would write a TAG with UCSB so not so worried about that. thanks i would appreciate all the help.

if you want to do a business major, then goto uci because they have a business school. if you want to do econ goto ucsb because they have a better econ program; however, the uci econ program is almost just as good.

Im leaning more towards a business major so uci would probably be my best choice, my gpa will be at about 3.2 when i apply wat are my chances of getting ( i wont be able to write a TAG because i will have 29 units instead of 30).

try taking another unit, man. It’s worth the TAG.

one thing to note,
if you’re extremely well qualified or they suddenly have openings, you might be able to do Business Admin at Irvine.

as far as just getting in…

3.0 Tag you’re in. Simple as that. You can even get in easily without TAG.

and do you have any AP credits? AP credit can boost you up.
also, you need 60 units to transfer.
also, 1 unit UC transferable PE class, it’s usually 2 hours a week and you work out, 4 hours if it’s a half term course.

Does business admin qualify under the TAG? im going to do precalc and music in the summer which would get me to 29 units the bad thing is that in summer session PE classes are worth .50 units.

UCSB is my second since it only requires business calc instead of calc 1&2. Anybody know bout the new major and if i would have the same job opportunites as a business econ degree from UCI? THANKS everyone really appreciate all the good suggestions.

the tag doesn’t guarantee you into your chosen major though, it guarantees you in the school but they can offer u admission with a different major.

biz admin is **NOT **TAG eligible. it’s incredibly impacted. I’ve heard that they only accept around a dozen or so transfers and I’ve heard about a 3% acceptance rate. I might be wrong, but those being accepted are probably comparable to those getting into Berkeley’s HAAS. As I said though I’m probably off on that, that’d just be a guess.

Thats why i think i would do Business econ the only thing that worries me is all that math that is required im worried that it could bring down my gpa.

I say that you go to both campuses, and get a feel for each one. Overall ranking wise UCSB outranks UCI, also (for me personally) UCSB is the greatest campus that I have ever been to. Honestly, im pretty sure that if you go to both campuses, you’ll come back in love with UCSB.

I really do encourage UCSB over UCI, but you should go get a feel for each campus yourself, cuz if ur not comfortable at the campus, how are you gonna perform well?

I’ve already visted ucsb and i loved the campus but they dnt offer business econ anymore, how different is econ and accounting major

Honestly if you are afraid of math classes i don’t know how well you would do in business econ

http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/BlackWhiteWebPDF/Economics&Accounting.pdf</a></p>

look over that, and if it seems like something that interests you, you should go for it.

Peterr86 im not afraid of math classes the problem is that i only have 2 semesters left at my cc and i would have to do precalc, calc 1&2 for UCI, and i dont think i wanna stay an extra year just to finish those classes

CalBearGuy thanks it did help, im interested in going into corporate business and according to the site its good for direct entry into the business industry which is my main goal. I dnt mind mAjoring in business or econ and acct As long as it gets me into that kind of enviornment.

I’m in the business econ major here at UCI. It’s a good major with really good professors. I don’t know how exactly it would compare to UCSB’s but I would assume it’s better. I am trying to transfer into UCI’s Business Admin major because that falls more in line with what I want to do later. However, you should know that it is EXTREMELY hard to get into that major. They only accept 15 transfers/change of majors! It really is harder to get into UCI business admin than it is to get into UCB Haas at this point! So, IMO, you should apply as a bus. econ major unless you are sure you have a decent chance for the bus. admin major. Here is the link to what UCI’s bus. econ major is all about:
[UC Irvine : School of Social Sciences : Department of Economics : Undergraduate :: Program :: Major in Business Economics](<a href=“Home | Economics | UCI Social Sciences”>Home | Economics | UCI Social Sciences)

Good Luck!

Sandaboy how are the internship opportunities for business econ majors?

We get a lot of emails for internships…I’ve applied to a few this year and am waiting for responses…we do get some decent companies though…everyone was psyched when Johnson and Johnson came last quarter (they usually only go to Cal/UCLA).

Nice, really leaning towards UCI i just need to do good in my calculus classes. Sandaboy do u know if financial and mangerial acct is required as a prereq, most schools require them but according to assist.org it doesnt list them for UCI.

I don’t think managerial is, but I think financial is.
