@sndebrosse : Wow... thats great news to hear. That gave some light to weekends. haha I'm glad its not that dead.
so during the weekends what do you actually do?

@sndebrosse: do you have any recommendations in terms of freshmen housing?

(dj, it's one DAY. lol are you making up excuses to miss a whole WEEK of school?) haha
i thought the 18th was celebrate UCI. same thing as open house?

djx:
Some popular things people do during the weekend:

University town center (there's a movie theater and tons of restaurants and stores), Basketball/volleyball games, Intramural sports, ARC, Biweekly Improv (Live Nude People (with clothes on) > Home), Newport Beach (there's a shuttle between UCI and newport), Disneyland, local clubs, occasional events on campus, hall-wide movie events (usually on Friday or Saturday night), hall-wide activities (we went bowling a few weeks back), hanging out with friends, local Irvine comedy club.
That's all I can think of at the moment, but these are just the most popular things. I know a lot of people who took classes through the ARC. For example, I took a sailing class on Sat. morning last quarter.

Breakfast: I can't really make any recommendations without knowing you personally. Some people love the residence halls, while some people would be better off going straight to campus village (the apartment community on campus). Mesa is a lot greener, roomier, and much closer to arts and humanities. Middle Earth has Brandywine (which rules), and is more tight-knit design wise. It's also a lot closer to social science, engineering and the ARC.
I would say, to live in the dorms you have to be a pretty social and patient person, or you're not going to be very happy.

To everyone wondering, weekends are very dead. But that's when you can go to the gym and try every freanking machine! You can ride your long baord/ bikes around campus w/o anyone stopping you. <-- I love doing this. You can sleep in, catch up on your hw, etc. Its nice and quiet. Most people like to think of it as bad, but I'd rather have it quiet than loud and nosiey. I live about an 1.5 hours away but this last quarter i stayed every single weekend...

There's always the bus (free for students) and you can go to Fashion Island, Newport, Beach, etc. its only boring for those people who don't know how to enjoy themselves! You can always bond with the people that do stay in the dorms!

just wondering do any of the restaurants on campus serve veg / kosher?

wow, thanks brando! yeah, im thinking that the study time would be really good for me.
(about how many people actually DO stay? i mean, just for some perspective)

i think I'm going to pick MC now that I've done enough research.
here i come, UCI!!!!!

PS> anything else I should be worried about?
feel free to share CCer's :)

here's shedding some light on the housing. seems like they both have their strengths and weaknesses, so it's really up to what kind of a person you are that determines what housing you'll choose..

does anyone know if uci's weekends are more quieter than ucsd's weekend???

^i find that highly likely considering it's rep

I doubt UCI's weekends are "quieter" than UCSD's considering that UCSD is quiet during the week.

WOW

this is all so weird, UCI isn't quiet in the weekend!

lol

well, it is a bit... lol.... but not like dead.

May I say that YES THERE IS VEGGIE and KOSHER meals on campus, I think that's like a standard in the college eating commons nowadays
