So I am an incoming freshmen at UCLA this year as an "undeclared" major. I am considering getting an Anthro BS degree or going into the sciences in the future.

Should I take math 31B my first quarter? I was told not to b/c it's hard and much different from high school but I got a 5 on the AP cal test and found calculus in high school relatively easy. Is it really that bad? i'm mostly just afraid that I will forget what I learned last year if i wait to take 31B another quarter :/

I'm also planning on taking the environmental GE cluster and another GE class. Would taking math 31B with the GE cluster be too much my first quarter?

I took Math 31B and a cluster my first quarter here. Depending on the professor, Math 31B can be easy or hard. I found mine to be about medium. Just keep in mind that a lot of the kids during Fall quarter will have taken AP Calc BC during high school and just didn’t score a 5. I only took AB so I felt a little disadvantaged, plus my class was exactly 100 kids so only 25 of them got A- or above, but with some studying it won’t be hard. I hated my cluster with all my heart. To me it was not worth the effort, but plenty of students last the whole year. It wasn’t worth my time so I dropped it. So yeah, just my experience. If you feel like you can put in some effort, then a cluster and 31B should be doable.

Well I’m looking at the tentative schedule, and Weisbart is teaching two sections. I hear he’s on of the best; in fact if I ever see him teaching an upper division I’ll most likely take him lol. Two of my friends had Rothschild (also teaching it) and I heard he’s okay. You have until the end of week 2 to drop any classes without paying fee or transcript notation. Then during week 3 you can drop with a $5 fee (also $5 more if you enroll in another class) but still with no transcript notation. After week 3, you WILL get notation on your transcript, and you will still get charged that dumb $8 per unit fee that gets put on URSA around weeks 6-7 despite you dropping. So unless you REALLY have to drop a class, do it within the first 3 weeks.

omg, I had Weisbart for math32b, and hes amazing! he offers you two grading systems (at least he did when I took him), one is the standard grading system that other math professors uses, and the second one is 100% final (whichever one is better). At the end, over 80% of the class got 90s or higher on the final, so most if not all of the class got As. He’s an amazing professor, hes funny, yep, definitely take him!
