UCLA 2018 Transfer Appeals

Rejected. Best of luck to everyone and future applicants!

Has anyone else heard back?

Does anyone mind sharing what the denial letter says & also, has anyone off this thread/anyone you know been accepted?

@anthonydavis when do you think the next wave will be

@americajm I’m thinking either the end of this week or sometime next week. I’m nervous! What’s your major / what’re you appealing on? I feel like a lot of the engineering people who appealed got denied, just like how all the engineering majors on the waitlist got denied too

Im a pre-psychology major. I’m appealing on some personal issues with my father and my mother. Also appealing on my last major prep class that is currently still in progress (physics) which is probably why I got denied.
What’s your appeal based on?
And yeah it seems like no one has been accepted. But that’s only based on people who reported back so there could be possibly a few acceptances who didn’t report back. Let’s hope for the best though!

@americajm why would they deny you because of an in progress course? That’s weird! But i read somewhere on this thread that they don’t take you seriously if you don’t have major prerequisites done and that it could work in your favor. I’m kind of in the same boat, I got denied as a gender studies major because I didn’t do the one prereq (that’s not available at my school) but they said I should’ve taken women’s history even though assist literally didn’t mention it and my counselors didn’t know I had to take it either. It’s post #27 on the thread if you want more detail :).

I think the fact that we are still waiting means that they’re considering our appeals more seriously right?

Well considering pre-psych is one of the most competitive majors (based on my understanding) people who had one or more pre reqs in progress they were automatically denied. That’s how competitive that major is. Which is probably one of the main reasons you were denied as well.
I hope that works out in your favor. If they never stated it on assist they shouldn’t expect you to know the alternative.
And I hope that’s what it means! I’m assuming they hold the most compelling ones and then eventually narrow those down to the ones they accept.

Don’t think anybody has got in… for waitlists and appeals combined… damn

@americajm I spoke with a UCLA admissions counselor, the one specific to my school who said she would be one of the people making a decision on my appeal, and she said that they don’t really pay attention to the application if there is a prerequisite missing, so you’re right about that, and hopefully both of our appeals bring to light information that makes us seem like a stronger applicant than originally thought because they may have just overlooked us without really considering us as applicants…and hopefully that’s enough to convince them to admit us! If not UCLA, (I hope it’s UCLA!) what are your other options?

I SIR’d to UCSB, but considering they got rid of the psychology major I decided I’m not going there anymore. It’s either I get in through my appeal or just wait it out another year and apply with what they would consider a ‘stronger application’ because my pre reqs would be all completed. I am currently passing physics w an A and my other two classes w A’s which would probably bring my gpa up to close to a 3.9

you guys think its worth going to UCR for a year, then trying to transfer out?

@dbxstian to ucla? As far as I know I don’t think you can transfer to ucla after your junior year. ucla and UCR have different upper divisions so they prohibit that.

@americajm wouldn’t they just cap my units? I heard of some students who went to certain UC for a year, didn’t like it and dropped. They then went to a CC and transferred to a different UC… I think the problem might be some of my classes won’t transfer and I would have to retake them

@dbxstian well I’m assuming they were able to do that because they dropped during their freshman/sophomore year which is usually composed of just taking major prep work.

I’m hoping we find out this Friday…

@anthonydavis did you hear back yet?

@americajm i just checked, and no. You?

I received an e-mail from them on June 15th telling me that a decision had been made regarding my appeal (it was rejected). A bit sad about it but not surprised, to be honest. Good luck guys!

@anthonydavis nothing yet…
