Hi everyone, I realized there’s no thread for appeals for transfer students for Fall 2019. There’s one but that is for freshman. Let’s share info and tips on here, what major you are, what our appeal would be, etc. Hope this helps.
My stats:
Rejected (obviously lol)’
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.87
TAP: Yes
I just got your message. Thanks for making this!
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.75
TAP: Yes. Alt: Linguistics and Psychology
For my appeal, I have no clue what I could write about. I do know that appeals open May 1st, no?
@HarleyTheQuinn Yeah, it’s May 1. I just checked the website.
“Transfer students will be able to submit an appeal between May 1 – 15, 2019. Please check back then.”

I see. I’m looking at the old transfer appeal from last year. Not that many people who appealed. Or there were probably more since someone mentioned that they were stalking the thread, haha.

It seems like only one person’s appeal got accepted @violetgirl11
Not surprising since appeals are an almost automatic rejection
hey guys! i wrote an appeal last year and was denied. However I think my appeal was perhaps considered more because i came out in the last wave of appeal decisions (but thats just an assumption). (I got accepted into ucla this year though). I would advise you guys to write your appeal on factors that you failed to mention in your application that could have made your applications stronger
@americajm Aw I’m sorry you got denied Oo really? Do they consider things like obstacles in our paths, other achievements we’ve made, etc?
@americajm Thanks for the information. It seems like appeal decisions came out around mid-July, with the older threads around the end of June
Hi! I’m going to appeal this year as this is my 3rd time getting rejected from UCLA which sucks. I appealed last year and did not get it but my application was very very weak and I don’t think I mentioned anything new. I got an answer back on June 15th.
@pbunny97 Oof 3 times?! I really admire you for your determination! Was there a max word count for the appeal?
@HarleyTheQuinn ya it was honestly tough deferring for a year, but the patience paid off and luckily i got in this year. And yeah obstacles that you faced throughout your academic career that you left out of your original application could help your case IMO. From my understanding the appeal is to shed light on information you neglected on ur original application, so make sure everything on ur appeal is brand new information
@VeeJoePerra Thank you so much for making this thread!
@americajm @pbbunny97 @HarleyTheQuinn So, I’m not completely sure about UCLA but for berkeley it seems that acceptances for appeals roll out on around mid-june. Whereas, rejections come out at around end of june.
@pbbunny97 @HarleyTheQuinn Hey guys so @imstressin contacted UCLA admissions and they said that the sooner we submit our appeal starting on May 1st, the sooner we’ll get a response.
@HarleyTheQuinn I think there is a word count or maybe not? But it’s best not to write something super long, its best to keep it short and simple and just cut straight to the point as to why you would be a good student for their school.
Whats the requirement for appealing to UCLA? Is it similar to Berkeley where they need new and compelling information?
i wonder how many appeals were granted last year
@slimreaper situations like this where officers need to review your application again and consider the new information you provided probably won’t get many acceptances. Remember, before appeals there are waitlists, before waitlists there are acceptances. Every seat counts and you gotta prove that you’re better than someone else on the waitlist to be admitted.
I don’t want to give you false hopes because the appeal process at any university is completely unpredictable. Just try your best so you don’t need to regret later if you get denied that you haven’t “tried your best on the appeal”. Just do it, work hard because there’s 18 days left till the deadline. Don’t waste your time trying to articulate a beautiful essay, explain your circumstances head on and explain why they should consider you despite being denied. You really need compelling NEW information after Fall 2018 to be considered.
If we call UCLA, are we able to ask why we got rejected?
@HarleyTheQuinn if you do that let me know! Because this is the third time I’m getting rejected and honestly I don’t know what the issue is because I got into every Cal State and UC I applied to. So it’s really really upsetting
@GoodAfternoonSir I imagine most appeals fail in explaining the new and compelling information or dont have new and compelling information and do not make it to a second review. I imagine they get a lot of appeals similar to the UC Berkeley huffpost one.
