UCLA Achievement Award Scholarship

I was a little sketchy at first, but I can assure it’s legit. I was just called to give my opinion about this in daily bruin I think? Or some newspaper.

PS for those of you going to UCLA, did you accept the housing offer yet?
I’m a wee bit confused?

(PPS Mine is to Hedrick Plaza lol)

my GPA 3.96…however, I did not get email and mail…so sad…hahah

wait i am confused, i got something in the mail (certificate about a scholarship ) but no email, are they two different things?

I received around 15,500/ year in gift aid.
2300 Fed. Pell grant, 2000 in scholarship, and 11500 in cal grant.
Not too shabby, getting a first-rate education for only around 10,000+ a year.

Question:

I’m considering staying a third year in order to add more courses and a minor…how would that affect my award aid?

4.0 and I got it along with the scholarship recognition award. I have a full ride now! :D

This is a bummer. My friend’s efc=0 and still with her 4.0 for biz econ she didn’t get it. I wonder how they chose who got this scholarship anyway…

i won like 1,736$ … thats it! =(

Found this article on the scholarship

[The Daily Bruin :: New fund for UCLA Achievement Scholarships will aid incoming first-years and transfers](http://www.dailybruin.com/index.php/article/2011/05/new_fund_for_ucla_achievement_scholarships_will_aid_incoming_firstyears_and_transfers)

I got a scholarship from the engineering department. Henry ClayScholarship, 5K. anyone got this? I didn’t expect any scholarship.

Kirk Kerkorian was the donor of this fund; Lincy is a combination of names of his two daughters – something like Marcy and Linda. He used the fund to help Armenians after their country’s earthquake, etc, and generally to do public good. Great man…

Out of the blue, he just turned the funds over to UCLA, 1/2 of which is unrestricted, the other 1/2 to do public good, under UCLA’s discretion.

I just hope UCLA is wise with the $$ and doesn’t deplete it quickly. Public school administrators, esp UCLA’s, are not really $$ wise. Some should be used for growth, etc.

I don’t understand the post two-year evaluation thing.

i have a 4.0 right now but will probably get a B in a writing class this semester. Is there any way for this scholarship to be taken away because of that?

@ BRUINBOUND22:

I had the same problem. Only B out of 6 classes. I called and they said “No, you’ll be fine” with absolutely certainty. Still sucks to be getting one B out of all this time at CC. Oh well!

Hi,
I am going to transfer to UCLA this fall. Do you still get the UCLA Achievement Award Scholarship $9,200? Did you get B in the last semester of your CC? How do you like UCLA? Thank you very much!

Seems like commuters don’t get the scholarship. And technically, this scholarship should be called the UCLA Grant because it’s based on need.

when do these go out?

Do we have to submit the SIR before we receive these notifications?

First, Congratulations to all who got scholarship!
My question is: May I still apply for this program or any kind scholarships? Cuz I did not apply any when I submitted UC application. I do have a high GPA and a lot extracurriculars.
Is it too late? Or may I apply for scholarship for my second year at UCLA or any other UCs?

Thank you guys!!!

it’s not even a scholarship. it’s a UCLA grant. They just call it a scholarship. It’s very misleading.

it says that only incoming freshmen will get this scholarship for 2012-2013.
