ok so i am asking around because no one in my family has gone to college so they arent really gonna be much help. i go to SJDC community college in stockton CA and this is my last semester. im a sociology major and cant seem to find the right school for me. i want to choose a school that is really social and friendly. of course i want to choose a top notch school which is why i chose all UC's. like i said im a soc major but i plan to go into counseling. i HATE doing nothing but reading books. i do have a good GPA and good study habiits but i just hate reading nonstop all the time. i know hard work means success and i am not whatsoever lazy to do what i have to in order to get to the top. i like to think that i am competitive but i am also compassionate, i do think that hard work determines where youll end up in life which is why i am afraid to choose a UC over a CSU. i did get accepted to sacstate and east bay so i do have a backup plan. although i dont think that getting accepted to a csu was a big accomplishment. i also applied for a TAG to Davis and honestly i think the campus at davis is nicer than berkeley's. but then berkeley has a higher rankin so i kind of wanna go there over all the rest. but i also heard berkeley is super hard and i dont want to put myself up for failure or go there and find out i dont like it or that im so busy that i dont have a life or have no time to find a job etc... i would live on campus so i think that would make life much easier. i am really overwhelmed and would appreciate anyones advice. UC or CSU? and which one? i applied to sacstate, csu chico, csu east bay, uc davis, ucla, berkeley and uc san diego. pleeeeeeeeeeease help. even though i havent received acceptance notice, i have a good gpa and i wrote a strong personal statement. i strongly beleive i have what it takes to achieve the best and i think that i have a strong chance of getting accepted. i dont want to come off cocky but no one knows me better than i do. all im asking for is good sincere advice

i noticed that i said “i do think that hard work determines where youll end up in life which is why i am afraid to choose a UC over a CSU” i just meant that im afraid to choose schools because i know some are super tough and i dont want to choose that one and set myself up for failure. i honestly do work really hard…

I have to think decisions will be out fairly soon, so why don’t you wait so you can compare real acceptances vs. hopeful ones? Good luck!

lol ur right. but i do have a choice between davis, sacstate and east bay…

You have to be prepared as a student for any amount of rigorous work whether you desire attending a CSU or a UC. College isn’t easy.

On selecting schools, do your research on each of them. Ask yourself: Where do I want to go? Is location important to me? What school offers me more of what I want? Is money an issue? Etc.

It’s okay to be nervous, but don’t pass opportunities like going to UCLA or Cal just because some schools may be easier. Challenges are a part of life and if you do “work hard” and bust your behind, you’ll do fine. Schools will not accept you if they do not think you’re able to withstand their academics.

At the end of the day, users on a college forum can’t dictate your future; we can’t just tell you where you should go. You have to sit down, do some research, and narrow your options. Attend the school you like the best! Best of luck.

spiffybOi. that is some really great advice. and i DO tend to doubt myself a lot which is why i ask all these questions. i have done my research, i mean a lot! and i do honestly think i can acheive way more at a UC. it seems everyone at schol is pushing me towards uc’s because everyone thinks ill do more than my best there. but likke i said i do doubt myself a lot and do all these weird things. but also i have noone else to take advice from but friends, professors and research. so see my dillema?

@freddie515 - I’m a sociology major too, but I’m going into law and becoming a public defender.

Uhm honestly your main goal (not your only goal) is to get out of school with the least debt amount as possible and doing that through the best available school if possible. At least I think that should definitely be considered.

Wait until you get all of your financial aid packets and look at everywhere you got in and make a determination at that point.

I’ve heard the Sociology program at UCLA “sucks your soul out”

Lol from a friend who did it and is now working as a tutor at my CCC, so it all depends on you as a person, which campus your most comfortable with, where you get in, and what they can offer you.

I got into UCLA and even though I’m nervous, I’m taking this opportunity! I got a pretty good financial aid packet and with other scholarships and the work study I was offered, it’s pretty much all paid for! I visited and the people said that its definately a lot of work but manageable and totally worth it! Im just going to have to take a risk!

Have a great time in LA. You will do well!
