UCLA Business Econ VS. Econ

UCLA has both business econ and just econ for undergrad majors. Can someone explain the difference? Also I plan on going to Grad. school for business, most likely Marshall School Of Business. Which will help me get in to grad school, which is more practical, prestigious etc.?

Biz Econ is considered much more prestigious. It’s essentially a mix of econ and accounting, as you need to take 6 accounting courses for it. Most people end up taking 3 more, and getting an accounting minor, in order to be CPA-eligible.

Neither matters for an MBA, but Biz Econ will help you more because the Big 4 recruit much more Biz Econ majors than Econ majors and work experience is very important for an MBA. However, there isn’t that much of a point to get an MBA if you start working with the Big 4 after graduation unless you want to try and go into consulting.

Thanks for the post, that was the type of info I was looking for. Also, i hope this does not sound stupid but what do you mean by big 4? Another thing that I was wondering about is the biz econ part of Anderson? cause I have not been able to find something that says they have a true business major.

^
Big 4 refers to the top 4 auditing companies (Deloitte,E&Y,PWC,KPMG)

Usually a business schools success is measured by how many of its graduates go on to work for the big4,Management consulting companies,IB

If a schools accounting program sends many of its graduates to the big4, then that school is deemed to be good in its accounting programme. Just an example :)

No, Biz/Econ isn’t part of Anderson. Anderson is the graduate business school.

Biz/Econ is carries much more weight than Econ.
