Subjective:

* ECs listed on app: Managing Editor of aforementioned school paper, New editor last year, and reporter before that. Part of a club that connects teenagers to community service opportunities, part of a micro-loaning organization, tutored individual kids in the high school level outside of school, tutored at my school (although it was part of the honors math requirement), part of the an organization which meets twice a week at one of the local middle schools to help underachieving students, I mentor as well as tutor. Cross country for a season, recreational soccer for two years.

 • Job/Work Experience:Mostly just babysitting, pet-sitting. I just applied for an internship at a lab!
 • Essays (subject and responses): 1.My crazy family and how they actually made me better 2. The constant amount of work that the newspaper takes to keep running( like 2-3 hours a day), and how it was completely worth it.
 • Hook (if any): Only that I am a person who likes to try different things and that in high school I had a hard time finding a balance between doing the EC’s I loved and my school work, hence the 3.8 gpa. I also really sold that fact that I would being joining the college newspaper of WHEREVER I went, and most likely a tutoring program for middle school children.

General Comments: I am pretty happy to have gotten in, but I still have my fingers crossed for number one. To be honest a lot of the people who are being rejected sound like much better candidates than me. I think the only reason they let me in was my that fact that my EC’s are so applicable to college, and they know I will continue them there, not because I was really any better qualified than some of the people on here.

Would someone please tell me why I was rejected from UCLA?
