Does anyone know when Regent’s notification is gonna be this year? Supposedly in past years it was around this time…
@exceller123 From looking at old threads, regents emails tend to come out in early Feburary.
Does anyone know when the supplemental questionnaire for UCLA will be comming out? I really want a second chance to show admissions that I’m a good candidate for admission.
@bruin2020 I just got a supplemental questionnaire last night. I believe they are still sending them out since I know some colleagues of mine received them earlier.
OMG. Just got the supplemental questionnaire. THERE’S STILL A CHANCE. <3
Wait what’s that?! I didn’t get it :-S
@itsmyusername it’s a questionnaire they give to students they want to know more about, and basically about 50% of the kids that get it get in, even if they don’t complete it. It’s a huge deal, because it means that even out of 119,000 applicants, they’re looking at you specifically and closely because you’re competitive. I’m just so honored and excited to have received it. Only about 6% of applicants get it.
I say all this to say, however, that even if you didn’t get it, you still have a shot (everyone has a shot), but for people that haven’t got it, it’s now only accept or reject. Hopefully we all get in, though! Cheers. <3
@itsmyusername It’s basically another personal statement that you write to inform admissions more about yourself. It’s only given to a few applicants and from what I’ve heard they are still giving them out.
Would (@athens5 and @berkeleybetch) you guys mind posting your stats?
I received the supplement request last night… I am out of state so UCLA is probably not feasible due to money, but I’m trying to figure out exactly WHAT they want me to write about because there are a few unique points in my application. (I have a 28 ACT and 4.1 UC GPA, taken 6 AP exams all with passing scores/AP scholar with distinction, enrolled in 5 more right now, only three have been math/science courses):
- I applied undeclared to the school of humanities; I attended a summer residential governor's school for humanities and wrote one of my essays about my growth as a person through the experience. I took two classes there, digital ethnography and gender/sexuality studies. I’m also in a specialty program for humanities within my public school and take English/History/elective classes with different curriculum and mentioned this under additional academic info. I also went to Girls State
- I wrote one of my essays about how growing up gay in the south pushed me to become an advocate for myself and others. I briefly mentioned forming and leading my school’s LGBTQ Alliance, along with working with my district school board to revise bullying/harassment policies to be inclusive of queer students.
- In the additional information section, I explained that I have a neurological condition that’s given me chronic pain for most of my life and made learning and getting through school very difficult at times; it was more about perseverance and not letting my disability define me than exactly how chronic pain has affected my academic record (I’m not really sure if it would appear this way to an adcom though, I’ve had mostly straight A’s with B’s in math and chemistry once, and taken plenty of AP classes).
- I’ve been a Girl Scout for eleven years; I listed the Gold and Silver Awards which are a pretty big deal (like Eagle Scout) but did not explain what I did for my projects, as well as a Girl Scout Leadership Institute under summer programs.
- I've also played piano for like seven years and do backstage crew for theater but I feel like that's not really relevant
I’m gonna ask my guidance counselor about what she thinks caught their attention, but I’m really not quite sure which parts I should write about for the academic achievements? And I’d assume the special circumstances are about my disability, but??? What do y’all think?
It’s definitely growing up gay in the south or your chronic condition. And I think for the academic achievement one, you should talk about awards, things you’re passionate about, etc.
Did everybody get this email from UCLA admissions saying “UCLA is within your reach” and talking about financial aid?
I got it ^
Probably an over-asked question, but does anyone know the exact date that UCLA freshman admissions results are being posted/mailed? Thanks!
@Ballerina016 My S also got “Alumni Scholars” email.
I don’t know if it a good sign or not towards the final admission process. I think I read somebody mentioned that UCLA sends about 4000 such emails, but then everybody can directly apply for Alumni Scholars scholarship. If that’s the case then what is the significance of somebody getting UCLA emails.
My S also received a similar email from UCB, but then again everybody can directly apply for Alumni Scholars scholarship at UCB.
Some of the students are getting emails to provide additional supplemental info for UCLA (we didn’t get any such email as of now) and some got LOR requests from UCB (we got that).
So in the absence of any clear cut answers, I will consider these “Alumni Scholars” and other emails as neutral towards the admission process because both “Alumni Scholars” committee and Admissions committee are two different entities.
@bruin2020 I have a 3.9 UW, 4.3 UC GPA, 1910 SAT, 30 ACT so not very great stats, however, I have over 1000+ hours of community service and have had tons of work experience in the marketing and stocks sector, which I had done since the 8th grade.
@indsfolax My DD also got both UCB and UCLA alumni emails. From what I read here on cc UCLA alumni email is more selective then UCB. 4,000 out of 112,000 application looks like very selective to me, but I also realized that admission and alumni are different entities.
when is regency announced? last year it was around this time, right?
Among all invitations, only Regency invitation could be of any sign of strong possibility of admission (though a student who gets that does not need to see that to know (s)he is indeed a stong candidate for admission to the school in the first place!)
With random and sometimes difficult to explain nature of UCLA selection process even the strongest applicants don’t know if they will get in. UCLA is the most unpredictable of all UCs.
Hey, I got a supplemental information request yesterday. Does anyone know if it’s wise to just answer one of the questions if you feel only one of them applies to your application? Or do you think I should try to answer both anyway?
I’m pretty sure they’re asking me for a supplement because I vaguely mentioned some adversity in the additional comments section, so I’m definitely answering the question about that. But I already talked about a talent of mine in one of my essays and I think I was pretty thorough. I mean I guess I could elaborate more but the new information wouldn’t really give much more insight. And I can’t think of any other significant talent to write about.
So is it acceptable to only answer one if only one applies or is that a death wish?
does anyone know when regents will come out?
