UCLA CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD

BTW, my husband’s a bruin. But it didn’t help our students because Legacy doesn’t matter. It does help with ivies however. There’s no justice. Still congrats on the Regents invitation. Great nod to your student’s accomplishments.

Just curious (I also got the email) about how many emails invitations are sent out and how many regents scholarships are awarded? Thanks

Regents is supposed to be top 1% of admitted students.

S got an Regents Scholarship Invitation too. I thought that’s almost like a guarantee? Anyone knows anyone who got the invitation but didn’t get admitted?

Oh BTW, it goes without saying, lots of kids who interview do not get the Regents, but get in nonetheless. The Regents is just the icing on the cake. But how sweet: priority registration for classes, guaranteed housing for 4 years, and need based scholarship.

Does anyone know how likely it is to get accepted if you got the Regents invite?

I think it’s “almost” a guarantee of acceptance because they send the invitation to apply to the top of the applicant pool, around 1000. Only 100 get the actual scholarship though, not positive, just what I’ve read on here in past years.

One year, around 2009, a bunch of people that got the invitation said they got rejected so no one can say for sure. It might be that they didn’t bother doing the application because the award is $2K if you don’t have any financial need and we know that everyone is pretty burned out on apps and essays by now.

However, if you do have financial need, the scholarship will meet your full need without loans and work study! Only 4 UCs will meet full financial need, no loans so it’s a big deal if you need money. Make sure your FAFSA is filled out with a UC in the top 3 spots. There are additional benefits, too so if you received the invitation, get it done and sent in asap. Remember to give your recommender enough time as well.

Good luck and congrats!

I wonder if regnet scholarship is only for in satate and few oos.
How about international applicants?

@coffee1999 yes, that’s how I think of it. But I want to emphasize again that this is not at all a good predictor of admission.

I got the emails for both the regents and the alumni scholarship, and not trying to put myself down but my stats aren’t all that great. I have an amazing uc gpa in the range of 4.3-4.4 but my sat is only 1360 and act a 29.

@mario1999 you probably wrote good essays and/or have good ec’s. they don’t only look at stats.

Even if the scholarship is a long shot I still look forward to the possibility. My ec’s are pretty good with community service and such, but I did work really hard on those essays. I was hoping that would give me a boost into possibly getting accepted. Am I right when I read that only about 1000 people get this invitation and about 100 get it ?

nursing applicants had to submit a supplement by Jan 15 with 2 LORs by Jan 29. Is it still possible for these applicants to receive Regents invite?

@vkrishnan4 Congrats on your kid for getting admitted to the fast track program. Even though it doesn’t say so your son has been admitted. It’s a great program and you will find out more specifics at the engineering open house for admitted students the day after Bruin Day. Congrats!

Any international who got reagents scholarship

@10s4life the letter said “if you are admitted, you will be invited to the fast track program”

@Fishnlines29 I’m a current HSSEAS EE student. It isn’t “official” but it’s essentially an early notification of admission. The fast track program is very prestigious. Everyone notified eventually got in. I would know it was at the engineering luncheon

@10s4life I was just pointing out that he was not yet invited to the fast track program.

My daughter received the email about the Alumni Scholarship. I just assumed it was sent to almost everyone. If this is a good sign, that is wonderful. If not, she’s already into some great schools and she is waiting until the end of March to hear from everywhere before committing. Seems like a long 8 weeks or so, but it will come. Good luck to everyone!

@10s4life Thanks so much for you kind words. We are absolutely thrilled and hope my S will get into UCLA!
