@firstwavemom yeah there are two essays for this schol. Your D should’ve seen that, after D finished with that one online form. There is a short delay though (couple of hours) before you get the email sometimes.
I’m working on the regents app. Just wondering what the CPID # is? Thanks!
@firstwavemom After you fill out all the info, you go into “continue previously started application” > My 2017-18 Alumni Scholarship > Jump: activities, volunteer work, essays, etc.
Were all the regents nominees sent the application request already? Or are they still being sent?
Hey does anyone know if we can recycle parts of our UC essays for the Alumni and Regents scholarships? Have the people who read these scholarship applications also already read our UC application? I don’t want to reuse it if they’ve already seen it and/or have access to it, but it would be helpful if I could use it for my scholarship applications
@forevertired The alumni scholarship people do not have access to your UC application. So they can’t see your essays. I reused my UC essays with some edits to fit the alumni scholarship essay.
An earlier post said that a gpa of 3.5 was needed to renew Regents, but actually the requirement is a 3.0.
why is this year’s thread so dead last year that this point in time the class of 2020 was LIT AF
@UCLAstan It seems like a lot of the class of 2021 threads are less active than class of 2020 ones. Perhaps there are groupchats or something instead.
@Faultystart Or that it’s really unhealthy to browse these threads since everyone on this forum is a genius… haha
@BluDawgs Yes, My son received a email about this today. He is an international applicant. His TOEFL is 107. UCLA adviced him to take an English Test.
Does anyone know when Regents’ Scholars invites usually come out for UCLA?
@scarletwitchx I’m pretty sure it already came out.
I wonder if UCLA’s regents selection process is more based on grades and Berkeley’s is more holistic. :-? I got a regents invitation and acceptance letter to Berkeley, but no news from UCLA
@lanabanana99 I’m the the exact same situation
My daughter received the Regents Scholarship at UCLA via letter in the mail after her acceptance last March. (2016) She never had any notification of consideration or interview. It was a complete surprise. However, at Berkeley, she was invited to come to a Regents Scholar overnight stay and interview, which she attended. She also was given the Regents scholarship at UCSB, UCSD, and UCI. - all without prior notification, interviews, or invitations to special campus events. She was admitted to Berkeley in February and was notified of her Regents scholar status after her interview and overnight stay in early March.
My point is just to say, as hard as this is, you just have to wait it out and not give up hope. She is now attending UCLA as a Regents Scholar and Alumni Scholar. She absolutely loves it. Good luck to all of you. I remember how difficult this time was last year. It is exciting, but so nerve wracking. It will all be over soon and you will love college life wherever you end up.
I just received a mail from UCLA. They want me to do the Duolingo English Test but my IB English HL score is 7 out of 7 and my Toelf is 110. I dont understand why they sent me thiss
@lanabanana99 same–that’s why I was wondering. I think UCLA chooses fewer people as Regents’ candidates, though–they say it’s the top 1% of the applicant pool, while at Berkeley, it’s the top 2% of the applicant pool. (And for me, I’d say my grades and essays are the best portions of my application–my ECs are good, but not amazing, so who knows how the criteria work?)
I read somewhere Berkeley offers 200 regents to 2000 applicants, and UCLA invited 1000 applicants for 100 regents. I also heard that UCLA requires extra essays but just an interview for Berkeley, some students may be less inclined to apply, or put in less effort to UCLA. But it’s all speculation. My S got invited to both and his strength is his GPA/tests, his ECs are good, but nothing spectacular. UCLA regent invite is an honor but not an admission guarantee and so of course we appreciate Berkeley’s invite much much better.
My D didn’t get UCLA or Berkeley Regents with a 4.0UW, 4.7W, 33ACT, PSAT National Merit Commended Scholarc, AP Scholar with honor award, lots of EC’s, including Student Body President. Y&G, Etc… I am guessing her essays weren’t strong enough. Would be nice if we are pleasantly surprised like dana37 in March, but I won’t hold my breath. At this point I just hope she gets in, especially to UCLA which is her top UC.
- I don’t know of a relevant thread that is for parents 2. This thread is of interest to us (parents), so we will continue to monitor/participate 3. it is entirely reasonable for a parent to want something more than the child, in many cases. For example, if I could have convinced my son to study for a couple of hours for the PSAT, he would have qualified for a NM scholarship through my employer. I wanted it more than he did. Now he regrets that he didn’t study, because those few hours of work would have been worth $8000+. I couldn’t convince him—but it sure was reasonable for me to “want it more than he did.”
