UCLA CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD

nope, they dont matter. focus on essays and ec’s. be unique. test scores dont reveal anything about you.

Got a letter from UCLA fast track program inviting my S to the March 4th open house.

Hello I also have a question for the importance of the ACT because I have
Tests: Sat 2: Math2 - 800, Physics -780 ; Toefl - 106
GPA ~ 3.94
ACT -29
Do I have any chances at all with that ACT score ?

@gigi888 no, no need to worry. L&S won’t weigh it heavily no matter the major. You will not he admitted as a applied math but pre applied math which is pretty much undeclared.

@JuicyMango GPA and Test Scores are the most important part of the UC app. Strong ecs and essays are important but they have to be incredible to overcome poor GPAs and test scores.

Has anyone on this thread been recruited or interested in joining a varsity sport if they end up at UCLA?

ANyone received mail about UCLA “explore the campus” on 2/11/2017?

@mochiko We received that email on 2/9. From the links of that email we did the virtual tour which kept prompting us to enter our information. And then upon entering that information we’d be notified they already have us on file.

@mochiko Yes, received “Explore campus life at UCLA” email on 2/9.

@mnms21 I was a recruited D3 athlete. Obviously chose UCLA over that but I was offered a spot to manage a varsity team. Pm me if you want some more details.

I’m not sure that the e-mails like the “Explore Campus Life” mean all that much. We received similar emails on Jan 14 (Achieve Academic Excellence at UCLA), Jan 19 (Get your UCLA Questions Answered Today), Jan 31 (Get the Facts on UCLA’s Affordability) and Feb 9 (Explore Campus Life at UCLA).

@10s4life I mean…its just a threshold. Most everyone meets it. After that, they really don’t matter. Plus, hardships always trump over a simple test score.

Do you think that getting the email about applying for the Alumni Scholarship is a good sign? Because I know not very many people receive that email. idk maybe I’m just trying too hard to convince myself that I have a good chance of getting in haha

@ashleyucla2021 I would think so. I didn’t get the email, and I’m a borderline candidate, so it makes sense.

I heard that the invitation to apply is based on your stats, but that you can apply for it even if you are not invited, and at least one person who was not invited and applied anyway got it.

@JuicyMango How do you know if you’re a borderline candidate? You can’t possibly confirm that. No one knows the UCs specific criteria in the admission process.
This email isn’t indicative of anything so don’t worry about it. I’m sure everything will work out in the end :)>-

@Zdawg99 Just based on historical stats from my school, and others I know who got in. It would kind of take a miracle for me to get accepted. But the college process is pretty random.

What works in your favor is the UCs are enrolling more students. Specifically in state students to meet rising requirements. Bad news is that classes fill up super quickly.

Debating whether or not to fill out the alumni scholarship application. On one hand, it could save me money, but on the other, I don’t have essays that would go with either of the prompts so I’d have to write two new essays.

I was not invited , but will be filling out UCLA alumni scholars app anyways. I know I’m probably not near qualified enough, or maybe shouldn’t even try, but I LOVE UCLA. And hopefully this can at least serve as another measure of interest if nothing else… crazier things have happened though. wish everyone the best.
