@allima I also got the alumni scholarship invite, and I’m super excited when I heard that you have a much larger chance of getting in if you get that invite. However, I don’t want to be too confident, because you never know we might me that 20-30% who got the invite but didn’t get in.
Uh oh, I didn’t get any email…and my ec’s are bad
@JuicyMango Dw, only a small portion of applicants get the emails.
rip me lol
ready for rejection :")
my gpa isn’t that good so no supplement email == rejection
Spoke with a ucla professor yesterday – which was just a coincidence re. being at an outside, unaffiliated but nearby high school event – and the ucla professor said there’s a new dean at ucla who is not in favor of the sort of ‘anti-grade-inflation’ curve practices for undergradualtes (but also framed his comment re. that dean’s opinion doesn’t dictate what individual professors chose to do.) Don’t know how true this is tho; might just be good pr in not dissuading well-qualified students from choosing ucla.
What do you guys think my chances would be if I didn’t get the scholarship email? (33 ACT, 4.25 GPA, pretty good EC’s). One of my friend’s got the email but I’d say we are about the same. (in-state if that helps lmao + I did not get a supplement so UCLA must already have a decision about me tears)
I can officially confirm that UCLA admissions decisions will be released on the 17th! For those of you who want my reference, I just got done with the Chancellor’s Reception in NYC for UC Santa Barbara. The admissions rep told me decisions were going to be released on the 17th for UCLA applicants!
Thank you for asking and for coming back and sharing the info @Jp6250
Thanks @Jp6250 !
What time in the day does UCLA usually release? Is it like midnight or around after-school time? Is it staggered by last name? Gonna be so nervous on 17th…
@sadsenior I think it’s 5 pm PST
@vasodys Decisions came out around 5 I checked at 6 and didn’t have any problems logging on.
@Momofsenior2017 There are lots of Deans at UCLA. From what I know the current grading policy is gonna stay for the foreseeable future. Most classes are curved to a C to C+ average. My CS classes are curved to a B- average. Most math classes are essentially uncurved. UCLA is a great school and I’m glad to be here but don’t listen to the tour guides saying they love the quarter system. They’re supposed to say that lol. Having two midterms and finals within 10 weeks is absolutely brutal and my high school was on quarters…
It just dawned on me that decisions come out in less than two weeks (if it actually is released on march 17). I am SO excited/terrified!! X_X
Does anyone when applicants for the Alumni Scholarship will be notified if they are moving forward to the interview?
@Scholar526 Not sure of an exact date, but assuming that UCLA releases admissions on March 17th, then it will be within the range of March 17th - March 31th considering that the interview round would only be available to those who were actually admitted to UCLA and that April 1st-2nd are the dates for the regional interviews.
I just learned that UCLA no longer gives registration preference for AP units earned in high school. So, all that money I spent on AP exams is wasted. While my DD can get credit it will not help her get the more advanced courses she will need, as students with more “at UCLA units” will get preference. What a waste!
@PoorDad101 , even before this change, students with lots of AP credits (which realistically is probably most incoming freshmen anyway) had lower registration priority than recruited athletes (of which there are many) and Regents Scholars. This is one of the reasons that my older daughter decided that her Regents offer from UCSD was far more attractive than her non-Regents offer from UCLA. (She ended up at a private U, but San Diego was the plan of record if that one reach school hadn’t come through.) Of course, YMMV depending on desired major/program.
I would just like to add to @10s4life post. The math department’s guidelines for math classes isn’t actually that bad as the classes are curved, for the most part. I know definitively that for the 3 series (i.e. Premed math) approx 20-25% of the class will get an A (including +/-). And in the first couple of classes for the physical sciences and engineering (the 31/32 series), it is a very similar grading curve with 22-25% A’s. Nevertheless, UCLA is definatley a tough school that really pushes you academically. The quality of education here is undeniably one of the best in the world! Good luck class of 2021!
