@vasodys fingers crossed!
Does anyone know if these were sent out last year as well?
May I ask what your stats are @voltthorn
33 ACT, 4.35 UC GPA
SAT MATH II 800, SAT II Chem 770
IB 40/42 (STEM subjects - 7s)
@vasodys i think I’m a top applicant for ucla, as i received the alumni scholarship. however, i did not receive a request for letters of recommendation from berekely, as other students in my school did. does this mean i most likely did not get into berkeley? also the students who received LOR are extremely qualified for Berkeley, probably even more so than myself, so I took not receiving the request for LOR as a negative sign.
@allima I didn’t receive LOR either. My understanding is that if you’re a borderline applicant, it is only then that they ask for LOR as another form of evaluation. Think about it. If you’re already a qualified applicant, why would they want LORs? That would be a waste of time for them. However, not receiving LORs may also mean that you are rejected, but I think the chances of that happening are low in your scenario.
@voltthorn so it’s been decided that if you get the likely letter for engineering you’ve most likely been accepted, so we kinda got in?
@coffee1999 Yes most likely, but you can’t be 100% sure. I have also seen students get the rug pulled out from under them still, so enjoy it for a moment and then put it out of your mind. Let’s just wait for decisions on the 17th.
While I agree with @voltthorn , I would like to put it out there that I received the LOR request from Berkeley as well as the apparent likely letter from LA. This suggests that a top applicant to LA may be merely borderline for Berkeley, and the average LA admit could be a flat-out Berkeley reject. Just my two cents.
@messiisgod123 Absolutely true, no doubt!
6 more days!
I received the LOR request from Berkeley and a Supplemental Request from UCLA. What is your interpretation of this?
@allima I’m an applicant like you so I don’t really know more than you do. I’ve heard that LORs are asked of borderline applicants as @voltthorn said. I take the fact that I wasn’t asked to send them as a good sign because I think my application is pretty strong.
@“Wilt Chamberlain” you seem to be a borderline applicant. I hope your LORs and supplement were good enough to push you into the admit pile of applicants
I remember reading somewhere that they send out engineering likely letters to the top 25% accepted students plus females and URMs. So far have never heard of anyone who receive engineering likely letters but get rejected. Good luck!
It just wouldn’t make any sense to invite students to an open house that is held AFTER decisions are released. Obviously nobody that was rejected would go.
@splp12345 Do you remember where you read that by any chance?
@ZHB1999 I agree. I’m not sure why they couldn’t just say we were accepted.
i thought the UC system didn’t take URMs into consideration… @splp12345
I know someone that received an LOR request from Berkeley and was admitted in February…sorry, I know this is a UCLA forum but I saw stuff about Cal too
@splp12345 they send them to the top 25 percent including girls or they send them to the top 25 percent and all girls that got in?
