UCLA CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD

I don’t think many people do the research before applying. I wouldn’t choose to do another major either way so it’s either I get in or not

I wouldn’t base my choices on acceptance rates. Even if I was aware of the “difficulties,” I’d still go for mech eng because that’s what I want to do.

I am really excited!!! UCSD has better science ranking but I really want to go to UCLA

Dang I did not know about those percentages. I got a likely letter in mechanical I really didn’t think I was that strong of an applicant either.

Admissions are almost random so I try not to beat myself over whether I’ll get in until I see the results

Can I see the tomorrow result @ucla portal acct @3pm(PST) and email at the same time?

@mochiko im fairly certain they dont email your actual result, just email that your portal has a decision in it. Sometimes the email lags and your portal has the decision before an email tells you it does.

You should follow their twitter and enable notifications. They said they’d tweet when the decisions are live.

OOS 1520 SAT lol

When are the decisions expected to come out?

@10s4life Thanks for your encouragement!

@vasodys thank you!

I read somewhere on this thread that ucla only looks at your college and not your major while evaluating your application. Is this true for the Engineering College as well?

https://www.admission.ucla.edu/FAQ/FAQgeneral.htm

"Q: Does my choice of major have an impact on my chances for admission?

A: For freshmen applying to a major in UCLA’s College of Letters and Science (L&S), choice of major will neither enhance nor diminish their prospects for admission. In fact, a large number of freshman applicants apply as “undeclared.” Major is a factor for freshmen applying to non-L&S schools at UCLA (Arts and Architecture; Engineering; Nursing; Theater, Film and Television).

For transfer students, major choice is extremely important for all applicants. Our evaluation of transfer applications is based largely on students’ preparation for the major they select and their GPAs in the completed preparatory courses. We give preference to applicants with strong academic records who will be ready to begin upper division coursework in their major when they enter UCLA.

All applicants–freshman and transfer–should be aware that applicants to majors in the School of the Arts and Architecture; the School of Engineering and Applied Science; the School of Nursing; and the School of Theater, Film and Television are evaluated differently than applicants to the College of Letters and Science:

Auditions and/or portfolios are critical components in the selection processes of the School of the Arts and Architecture, School of Music, and the School of Theater, Film and Television.

The majors in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are very competitive–especially Bioengineering. All engineering applicants will be expected to have especially strong performances in math and science courses.

The School of Nursing has a separate application in addition to the general UC application that all applicants to the school must complete."

@splp12345 Thanks!

@messiisgod123 @vasodys The acceptance rate between CS and EE is a 10% difference but there’s a big asterisk for that. Except for Mat Sci all the engineering majors accepted students scores are almost identical. I.e. 75 percentile is a 4.0 UW and sat avg is close to 2200. The difference is UCLA admits so many EEs because the major has the highest drop out rate in the school. So to graduate the same amount of EEs as CS they admit more. So many engineers have the same high stats so they draw the line somewhere.

@10s4life r u sure people who didn’t get likely letter still can get accepted tomorrow?

Why the high dropout rate in the EE program!

@10s4life Does that mean that having similar stats would get me accepted into CS then?
